I would be very wary of varying from the Parex specs. They will use any excuse to get out of any warranty issues, including installation by non Parex approved contractors etc. There will be a data sheet for the render board.

I've just fitted a 850 high 150mm deep Kappa concealed cistern (no frame) for a btw loo. It has the option of a top mounted flush, so the flush plate would be on the shelf

And we thought our site was awkward...
bassanclan replied to jamiehamy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I thought Marl Brinkley house builders bible rule of thumb was 1% extra cost for every 1% slope. So for a 5% slope on a £200000 house the extra cost was £10000? Need to look for my book to check -
I like the openness, but have you considered the fire/building regs of a kitchen open to the stairs? Perhaps something to investigate, I don't know exactly the consequences. Bed 4 could be a "second master" with ensuite

Personally I don't like the zince cladding, but more objectively it is an alien material to that site. The external appearance should take signals from the surrounding, either natural or other buildings. I think that house would stick out like a sore thumb, rather than being a more modern interpretation of the existing houses.

Wall plates: a continuous run of timber?
bassanclan replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
It's not a ddifficult joint, but there will be a few of them, you need them on the corners as well, so by the end of the job you'll be a 10/10- 25 replies

Wall plates: a continuous run of timber?
bassanclan replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
No it doesnt have to be continous. If you try and get a 10m length it will unlikely be straight and probably expensive. You put a half lap joint in where the two timbers meet- 25 replies

Maybe I'm misunderstanding things, but threaded bar and resin etc is going to be a long slow job compared to say concrete screws, https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p12879?mkwid=sckRtJFKF_dc&pcrid=142501343890&pkw=&pmt=&product=12879&gclid=CjwKCAjwxo3OBRBpEiwAS7X62RR76LR5 or the self tapping coach scrwe/bolts mentioned

I will have to see whether it is better to paint the grooves with a brush or with the spray

I got a 3M 7500 from ebay cheaply. They have replaceable filters and is surprisingly comfortable.

I'm wanting to paint 330sqm of external render with an airless spray paint machine, but the render has 6-8mm deep, 12mm wide ashlar grooves in. (Regency spa town style) Will an airless sprayer do the job on its own? Or would I be better painting the ashlar grooves with a brush? As you can see I have already painted the grooves with a primer as they are formed from upvc beads.

Window cills gone green
bassanclan replied to NIreland's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I have stone composite concrete cills. After installing I used LTP Mattstone on them which seems to have been good so far -
I vaguely remember a thread about insulation "the sweet spot" but I can't find it, maybe on ebuild?

If the bushes are not TPO and you are not in a conservation area and root protection zones are not mentioned in your planning permission or you are digging outside the RPZ, then get on and dig trench foundations unless you have other circumstances e.g made up ground, tall trees on clay etc etc.

Instead of s&c you can use Gyproc Soundcoat Plus as a large coat (I assume internal) which you can make into a slurry and apply with a broom. That's what I did

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

Wall Hung Toilet Weight Limit
bassanclan replied to Triassic's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Go for the concealed cisterns with the metal frame for added piece of mind, or fit a back to the wall toilet with concealed cistern, which gives a very similar look, but is obviously planted on the floor -

Back to Wall Pan on Wonky Wall
bassanclan replied to Grosey's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
It looks like its out by 20mm out over about 500mm? Is it the floor or wall that is out. (Have you double checked for a manufacturing defect in the pan) -

Sometimes nightmares are real: the insurance story
bassanclan replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Self Build Insurance
It would be interesting to see if your insurers persue Durasol (although I doubt it for a relatively small sum) or if Durasol change their guidance and training- 70 replies

Demolition and recycling places are a good bet. I use KSD Coleshill, £20 for as much as I can get on my truck
