  1. I have slid a dummy batten behind my timber cladding, it’s not screwed to the frame, but it is screwed to each cladding plank, so stiffens up the ends at all the reveals.
  2. i Would think coupled with some good grab adhesive that will work. And change the 25x75 for 25x100 so you get a better shot at getting the screws in straight.
  3. What is wrong with the eps beads, would need to insulate further on the inside as well though.
  4. I would think looking at that pic, that you have a bad join at the ridge join, I would look if you have a solid timber up there, if so insulate that and get at it with airtight foam.
  5. Bloody hell that’s nice.
  6. Got any pictures. Im trying to build this.
  7. Ha ha, you lunatic, I’ve got 70m of timber ceiling to do, when we first looked at it it was £3500 for the timber, this was expensive and has been dismissed a dozen times but always gets brought back in when we are feeling silly. Price has now gone up to £7000 and we are still thinking of having it. Dont forget the intumescent coating that will add £5-600 on top.
  8. How much are the Duran ones mr @pocster the ones I like are £700 per door set. Which is a bit silly.
  9. Yep, will it look any better than Siberian larch. All depends on your look you want, I had a certain look and a group of pictures i had from a Canadian architect. I like what we will achieve but I’m sure I could have knocked £30-40 grand off the final bill with upvc facia and soffit and different cladding. But it’s only money and I’m not worried about eating beans on toast for the next few years.
  10. Plan where you want new house and get any trees and hedges removed. Check for tree preservation orders and conservation area. If not get them removed before bird nesting starts. Clean old house very well on outside to remove any sign of bat activity. Remove any habitation piles any any rubbish that could be habitat for newts or any other protected creatures. Be be aware of doing all this with upmost care as disturbing protected species comes with some hefty fines.
  11. @JohnBishop why do you think it’s your neighbours roof leaking, if yours was the one that was replaced, then it was the roofers that did yours that haven’t provided a good join between old and new. Others have said that’s it’s a bit of a mess, well it is, but that row of ridge tiles was a very standard practice in the 80-90s for joining two roofs of different materials. The tiles on the left are a clay small tile, not slate. The tiles on the right are an interlocking concrete, again a standard replacement due to cost. I think you need a roofer and I would say it’s down to you to fix it, your neighbour was probably very happy with their roof before yours got re done., and could well be causing a leak on their side as well. The black stuff as nick said is air pollution that doesn’t get washed off because it is hidden under the roof line.
  12. Why.??? I went for eye wateringly expensive cedar cladding, it looks really good, but does it look £10,000 better than an alternative product, nope not really. If you go for a brick with different dimensions it will cost more in many ways. Initial purchase. Different wall ties. Brickies extra labour. It will go on and on.
  13. Should you not get planning to rebuild before you start pulling this one apart. you are not guaranteed to get platform a replacement. be careful.
  14. Why don’t you put in a proper living wall system you tight sod.
  15. What time do you want me around, will be near bath tonight, so not far to pop in.
  16. Are you sure about the 5m thing. I was told 7m from the house. I have the Graf unit, it only requires power, but you do have the box that has the air blower in it, mine is in a shed, which could be your problem if it’s in the front garden.
  17. Marmox block built into the inner leaf instead of that pir????? just thinking out loud.
  18. Cables run but location to be confirmed. Probably about 10 minutes before the ceiling goes up. ??‍♂️ Excuse the crappy pic. Phone really didn’t like those lights.
  19. We have done this method, we have 5-10m of cable coiled up hanging from a nail just waiting for 100% decision on light placement, then clip along batten and cut to length. Just means you might waste a couple of metres of cable but it’s cheap.
  20. I’ve built a couple of these steel framed workshops 12m by 6m last one. I brought the steel c sections from a steel supplier and then had the angled corners and top sections bent to the angle I wanted. holes drilled on site and bolted together. no need for big pads under the legs, just a floor slab that is thicker in the location of the legs. I cannot see why you can’t build what you want for £20 grand all done.
  21. @WWilts have been on the Sherry.
  22. Cleveland cables. But it was last year so might have been a bit cheaper. it was about £9.60 plus vat a metre.
  23. Just done mine 115m in 50mm best part of £1000 plus vat.
  24. @Nick Laslett. I wouldn’t panic the one I didn’t like was woodcrete so sat there like a big sponge.
  25. Eps 100. 40mm barb staples, cheap rubbish gun from e bay.
