Can I just fit heat alarms instead of smoke alarms
TonyT replied to Adsibob's topic in Building Regulations
Ask your local authority what they want, are you using mains cabling type, battery or fire alarm based system? who is designing the M&E system? did the ‘Architect’ come up with a fire strategy? -
Ah didn’t realise you were going through the wall, thought it was for a resin bolt or expansion sleeve, just drilling to a certain depth.
-
SDS max of the correct diameter I’m a decent drill start with 10mm as a pilot to ensure accuracy and to let the hole fill as you go larger. stop and clear debris on a regular basis

Time to buy shares in the ripple wind turbine to help offset extra costs like FIT it’s a 25 year scheme -
Get some air blowers in blowing air, circulating air from the basement outside, crack open windows, etc buy a humidity meter so you can monitor results

Above the floor 😀

You would use make/female fixings for this also called bolt through for decent fixings

If you change that double socket to a switched spur ,you can have unlimited socket outlets on it, as the switches spur will only allow you to pull 13 amp
-
You will probably need 25mm2 to allow for the volt drop..

ASHP SCOP=3 in uninsulated 1960s house!
TonyT replied to richi's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
This is his office/ workshop where he integrates new technology/tries it out/ possibly does some training before let loose on the public. he had The guys from https://openenergymonitor.org to do the monitoring and Trystan did a great video on his own heat pump install many years ago assisted by John Cantor. -
Use standard 3 core and earth and runn2 of them as you will be using them on 2 way switches and smoke detectors.
-
Doesn’t matter what the price is, you should always agree before work commences then you have no arguments. that’s the whole point of extras - that’s where the money is made. persimmon. Buy the bog standard house with centre light or pay £160 per downlight as an extra.
-
No one is forcing you to use them, maybe they felt obliged to quote, lots do it. silly price so you go else where or if you accept well…… My morals are fine, thanks for asking…
-
No, they quoted for work and you don’t like the price/profit margin/risk they have allowed for. only thieving bastards when they steal materials from you

What makes a house look cheap? What makes it look fancy?
TonyT replied to puntloos's topic in New House & Self Build Design
I think lighting along kitchen kick plate looks daft certainly not fancy. -
If you also fold the joins of membranes over and then tape the fold is compressed by the plasterboard helping in some situations

It’s fine loop away! just think of them as single sockets not on the same face plate -
Vapour check plasterboard. plaster 2 costs of emulsion
-
Standard direct connection meters will take 100amp per phase all day.

Hi Ian, no need to use change over switches now! except possibly last resort running the house off a petrol/diesel generator. Battery packs with hybrid inverters, oversize solar arrays all possible and easy to integrate into a new home. maybe located in a garage or plant room due to the size. https://camelot-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=708
