Is it normal to add a service charge to a fire-alarm quote?
TonyT replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Electrics - Other
Not clear. do you already have a maintenance contract in place for a visit twice a year. if so an extra detector would normally have the installation cost and the uplift for the yearly maintenance as it’s another thing to check. my contracts generally go up 3-5% per year depending on the site, complexity etc. assuming this is a fire alarm system with a panel and not just mains heads. -
5% retention- I’ve had builders walk away from more knowing the grief they will get will be gone….

Farrow and Ball paint: is it that much better?
TonyT replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Decorating
I use the colour charts and let my internal customers choose and then get it mixed up Leylands/Crown The painter doesn’t like it, neither do I, so we ain’t using it. -

Can’t help I’m afraid, faced similar issues 20 years ago on a site, I sold for a profit so no drama, I felt like Inviting the traveller/gypsey community to stay for a while… they would get planning… -

I’ve been insulating a dormer window. joiner opened up the inside cheeks to let me have access to trusses etc. got 1 full sheet cut up and fitted and foamed in yesterday. Not finished yet but laser thermometer showed 3 degree difference on the internal wall that was insulted and the next section that hasn’t been done yet.

Don't worry, nobody's gonna know ...
TonyT replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
I think it’s a general arrogance of trades that they know better. Some always learn, go on courses and improve knowledge and skills. Others use the same attitude and approach they learned as an apprentice ( assuming they did an apprenticeship of course) and come away with the infamous lines,, it’s always the way I do things, even though you issued a specification, drawing and they quoted on that, 9/10 the guy doin the work isn’t privy to that info and just does what he/she feels is correct….. -

LVT down skirtings mist kitchen final painting. flooring down- nice easy surface, no cutting around haffits etc. skirtings, primed varnished etc mist coat, less mess when kitchen is in. fit kitchen finish paining and use. -
The only thing that can alter the existing fit contract is a change to the equipment relating to that install. a second install independent of the FIT install has no financial impact, it may impact the grid hence the DNO involvement if you choose to let them know.

Have a look over at the Camelot forum, many users of the Navitron forum on there, who have done lots of these projects

I personally fit skirting all around the room, and finish the floor just like a normal room. this all help with air sealing etc, little insects etc its then just a easy scribe of decorative end panel, changing the kitchen in 15 or 20 years later, the skirtings are in place and so are the tiles for example..
