  1. Im not saying and have never said there isn't a place for heat pumps on niche builds where they can be made to work well and people are happy to live with the compromises they bring. For the mass market they are simply a worse option than a combi in every respect apart from the paperwork/eco side. The only workable and realistic solution for both new build and the aging existing stock is to fix the eco side of combi boilers. Worcester bosche are already hydrogen ready so its a case of how this will be delivered, locally via some device that produces it on demand or via the existing gas network.
  2. the betamax video player also worked well.
  3. order now. roof tiles. bricks. order 3 months before you need it blocks insulation roof trusses windows eveything else leave to last minute sand
  4. agree with other comments, it needs taking off and sorting. https://www.designingbuildings.co.uk/wiki/Conical_roof_slating
  5. says it all.
  6. use 7n blocks and fill the cav.
  7. put the socketts where you want with blanking plates on them. after BCO signoff remove plate and ft socket.
  8. builders merchants, jewsns, travis etc stock them. Not worth losing the good will of the builder over a £60 flashing kit. wood for the trees mate.
  9. don't forget your neighbours, how far will it be from neighbouring buildings ? Expensive to rip it out when they complain about the constant noise.
  10. Heresy! You are preaching to the converted here ......
  11. cheap method, clean it out then epdm it, try and lap the epdm under the roof sheets ,
  12. ditto if not 150% too low.
  13. who is supplying the door handles ? Hinges and latches are normally part of the kit. builder will have priced for normal consumables like screws, nail gun nails and gas etc the flashing kits are separate because there are different kits depending on the roof tiles they need to flash. Just apologise to the builder explain you didn't understand and everything will be fine.
  14. problem you have is scaling from LR plans is next to impossible, so you either mark it where you 'think' it should be and see what they say then be prepared to comprise until you don't want to anymore and fall out. All depends on how reasonable both parties are and who will likely to be selling up first as boundary disputes have to be notified to future purchasers.
  15. get a copy of his deeds and see what boundary detail, if any, is marked on them. £12 from land reg.
  16. looking at the rep[ies, what did i tell you at the fanboys. "My house is 10000m2 and only costs £1 a day and its never on for more than 1 minute etc etc " You'll only ever hear one side of heat pumps on here, have a good read up on the other side.
  17. id really have a think about that. It will be a LOT cheaper to run oil. If you have an old house without massive insulation then you will have an uphill battle. the tepid water from a heatpump needs massive radiators (3 or 4 times the size of normal ones) unless you fig up the floor and put in underfloor. You will go from limitless hotwater to limited, which may be ok for a small househo9ld but if you have kids etc its like going back to the stone age.
  18. just realistic. A normal brick and block house with a family they are unsuitable when compared to gas. Yes you can go back to the 70's with tanks and cylinders in the loft, real world you will be paying 300-500 a month in the winter for electric as they dont work when it gets very cold. Read up before taking the plunge.
  19. take a window out and crane it in.
  20. crikey the luddites here all run silent heatpumps that cost 1p a day in winter and never run out of hot water. Dont expect to get impartial advice.
  21. will be hard to get the correct shade and colour so the ridge would stick out like a sore thumb against the rest of the roof. It would also stick out compared to the neighbours each side and may look odd.
  22. get a quote for mains gas. Anything upto the cost of the heat pump id pay to have cheap limitless hot water and heat.
  23. should be fine with a final level and wacker before laying. Use a strong mix sharp sand full bed under the tiles.
  24. planings are excellent and cheap.
  25. go into the loft and put your iphone on one of the trusses with the angle finder app.
