  1. Icynene is definitely not DIY. Can only be done through installers.
  2. When was the programme made? Prices around here have gone up a lot in the last 3 years or so, can't get anything half decent for less than £150K. Isn't that why you moved to Scotland from Oxfordshire, not comparing like for like.
  3. Our BCO was flexible about our as designed SAP in that he accepted my PHPP calculations instead but he required an as built SAP. The SAP assessor wanted copies of all the required certficates before issuing the final SAP and EPC.
  4. If you can smell something you must be breathing in molecules of the substance but whether they can be dangerous or not I'm not sure. What do you think @JSHarris.
  5. Yours are the same size as mine and my ledger plate was 250mm x 50mm.
  6. Welcome to the forum @eekoh. We weren't asked for any ecological surveys as part of our planning permission. I look out for bats on summer evenings but don't see many unfortunately.
  7. The only things I would do differently would be to do less work myself and to have built in external blinds on the WNW facing glazing. Having lived in the house for a full year now we are very happy with how the house has performed overall.
  8. @Bitpipe Is it possible to put a temperature sensor behind the Parex boards to see if there is a significant heat build up? I would be surprised if a ventilated cavity behind a white surface would get that hot.
  9. @Ferdinand So 10mm as a minimum and the link recommends 20mm for replacement slots in mitigation work.
  10. IIRC the slits in the bat boxes we put up were about 15mm. Pipistrelle bats are very small, probably smaller than a mouse and they get through small gaps.
  11. I've used one of the Evolution electric compactors for my parking area and I will use it for my workshop base. I used <50mm crushed concrete in ~70mm layers up to 200mm and it worked surprisingly well. I wanted to be able to take my time through January when the weather was good so buying my own made sense. For the final wack I will hire a much larger one for a day. https://www.speedyservices.com/18_0104-h-forward-reversible-compactor-plate-diesel-400mm-16in
  12. Welcome to the forum and good luck with the build. Any plans or site pictures?
  13. Not exactly rock garden, but I have Beth Chatto's Gravel Garden book which has similar planting.
  14. I've got Senco 1st and 2nd fix gas guns, over eight years old now. The 1st fix only gets dragged out occasionally these days to fix fence panels and the like but still works ok after a battery charge.
  15. Schneider make some nice ranges.
  16. Hi, welcome to the forum. I have built a Passivhaus which has a roof window. The roof window was fitted around eight years ago and was not a Velux because at the time Velux did not produce a roof window without trickle vents so I fitted a Fakro. Sorry I can't be of more help.
  17. If you had a vented cavity behind your outer skin how would that affect the temperature of the main wall construction and hence decrement delay.
  18. Yes, that's what I was thinking in respect of how much solar gain could be stored in the floor slab. I was thinking it would be very difficult to work out unless it is a more or less a homogeneous material. I have a concrete slab with a layer of tile adhesive then porcelain tiles. Presumably how reflective the surface of tiles is would also affect the result. Some of the flexible tile adhesives have air bubbles as well, so would act as an insulator. It would be interesting to know how much is being stored in the floor when the sun shines on it but I guess not really possible to work out, although maybe possible to measure.
  19. Is there any data showing what the thermal gradient is or whether it is linear in different materials with differing thermal conductivity and capacity.
  20. Yes, I remember scratching a hole in the ice on the inside of my bedroom window so I could see out. IIRC our only heating was in the living room in the form of a paraffin heater.
  21. Welcome to the forum Nick. It looks like you're making good progress. Good luck with the rest of the project.
  22. I found that to be the case and went back to a sprung mattress and it's fine now.
  23. I'm well into OAP territory and can remember the ice inside and am thankful things have moved on, and I can sleep in a bedroom at 22C without having to worry about draughts or the electricity bill.
  24. As Ed said there was no excavation required by UKPN. I took the ducting up to the base of the pole and they connected at the top of the pole.
  25. Our electricity connection was £636. We laid the ducting, with a couple of hockey sticks, from the pole in the orchard, at the corner of the garden, to the meter cupboard which was 17m. We fitted a draw cord. For the £636 they supplied the cable, pulled it through the duct, and connected both ends.
