You're lucky @JSHarris - I need to put a pump into ours but the current plan is to get another Wilo like the one on the Wunda manifold as they are near silent.

Expensive way to fix an issue ... Use a tee on its side to go to the new pipe - a double socket would slip its "plain" end into the tee on the stack - and the just use a std 90 elbow to bring the other loo stack out of the floor. Quick, simple and 3 cheap components.

Check with the supplier as when you go up past 6kw IIRC some require you going with 28mm not 22mm pipe. I'm about to move ours as it's caught me out as I forgot the pipes when we did the slab and there is no easy or elegant way to get pipework to the unit without heading up into attic spaces etc or running it in skirting boxes which is my other option.

Dormer cladding and lead flashing
PeterW replied to Barney12's topic in Lofts, Dormers & Loft Conversions
Your slates will be 10-15mm thick with laps where you are talking about so I would do it "properly" and get a couple of decent crawler ladders and final fix the cladding after the slates and lead. It will look better than a bent apron and be neater around the cut edge -
TBH Swann are overpriced for the spec. I use a Maplin 3G router with a cheap PoE injector and 3 cameras. There is a cheap NVR attached but I tend to just use the alert on it to trigger me logging into them as I can record off the app.

They are not too bad - set to 25FPS for viewing unless I want to put them into realtime which gives me 50FPS. One set is on the end of a 3.5mbs broadband link and they are not that bad at all for lag - I think this is due to using a cloud provider for the streaming. The others sit sit on a 3G enabled router and are ok as long as you don't pull all of them up at once ..!

I run two, both with Onvif cameras and an app based viewer. Cameras were £80 or so but are 4K/1080p so high quality.

So..... where does ICF clad with timber fit into this ..?? Would the standard construct of ICF with an outer ventilation gap and then timber cladding create exactly the same scenario...?? It would create a chimney effect that would be similar to what has been seen here A lot of the aluminum cladding panels are only clad with 1mm aluminum at best and it is the core material that becomes the issue - plastic honeycomb is flammable and as soon as this is compromised the the panels will delaminate.

MVHR Outlet/Inlet Close to ASHP?
PeterW replied to Barney12's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Only that the amount of free air flow may be reduced. Watch for the ones with flaps as to be honest they may not be needed as they will be permanently open... -
Mvhr install - makita drill casualties
PeterW replied to Jimbouk's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
So I've been "blue all the way" with tools for 10 years - this year I've swapped one item as I've noticed that the Wickes own brand is remarkably similar to the Makita units side by side. I'm trying the 10.2v LiOn cordless as a trade off as it £29 vs £89 and I want to see how long it will take to "break" it... -
Confused...? Where are you measuring the clearance..? Vertically..?

Are you first in the run then or is that a common sewer ..? First in and you can do what you want within the building regs as it's your pipework. Any way you can pull the rest of it up and move the chamber down the run slightly ..? Then the upvc intercept would be easier. I'm pretty sure that any built up chamber still needs a half pipe joint in the bottom and you can't build it up from sand and cement but would need to check.

I think it's a mix of the two questions and has the addition of the cladding created a fire risk that was previously not present...? This was a 1974 building that had limited escape routes as it had a single stairwell - no amount of refurbishment is going to fix a fundamental design issue and it will most likely be a significant factor in the inquiry following this tragic event.

@NSS I think this is an abject case of how fast the media respond - at 8am this morning when the original post was made there was no report of loss of life but rather that a tower block had seemingly gone up from the outside in. As today has unfolded it has become apparent that there has been a significant loss of life and the posts have subsequently reflected this tragic turn of events. I expect I write on behalf of all of the members of BuildHub in expressing our sadness and our thoughts going out to those both directly and indirectly affected.

Send it to County Battery - they will do it for you for about the same price you can get the cells for. https://www.countybattery.co.uk/

Pipe should be 110mm..?? Looks much deeper or is that an illusion ..?

Why can't you go below the joists ..? You will struggle to notch the tops.

Vat reclaim
PeterW replied to johns's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
Why is it nonsense ..?? For a small extension where VAT is not reclaimable, using a non-VAT registered contractor is an immediate 20% saving. On a larger development there are a number of other ways but in the context of the question asked this is an immediate and tangible benefit. -

Vat reclaim
PeterW replied to johns's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
Hi VAT is not reclaimable on extensions - its only valid for new builds and certain conversions.... Saving money on VAT is only possible by using non-VAT registered trades and doing some real smart buying -
I bought all new planks and they are bloody heavy !!! Reckon they are about 60mm thick...
