  1. Just get a £1 eCig and some cheap glycerin and then make your own smoke machine ...
  2. A very cheap and low tech version of this is to cover chains in duct tape and thread a piece of cheap blue rope through the links too. Duct tape makes a real mess of blades and cheap blue rope soon gets tangled up - both would soon stop a battery grinder. Winding some magnesium ribbon under the duct tape too could have some "interesting" results ... you could follow the brown trail to the culprit then ....
  3. Could well be but they then have a bevel drive which reduces it down and just isn't quick enough for decent cutting.
  4. They aren't great - engine speed is too slow for the chainsaw piece and the hedge trimmers jam really easily ...
  5. https://askubuntu.com/questions/314830/how-to-make-ip-address-static-eth0 Static may be easier in win10
  6. So 10.42.0.1 is your IP address hence why you can't connect to it Gateway is odd at 0.0.0.0 - can you retry with the Ethernet connection ..?
  7. Either network manager from the GUI or iwconfig from the shell if you are on wireless. Use ifconfig if it's wired.
  8. Best one I've had so far is .... "Well we were never consulted by the council ..! I've a mind to ring the MP and complain ..." Didn't have chance to say it's had PP since 2002, renewed twice, altered twice and we are building iteration number 4, approved in 2014.....
  9. @ProDave I've just flicked through the manual - it has its own wifi network and SSID ..! If you connect via Ubuntu it should assign you an IP and identify the gateway it is using. The IP may give away what range someone has set for the DHCP server within the unit. With this sort of stuff I usually use a fixed cable as it's more reliable.
  10. Other choice is to use a Cat5 cable to connect it and see if you get a different address etc
  11. I think in this case the gutter and pipe is on the outside of the building but behind the cladding however I agree it does need careful design to stop any opportunity for blockages to cause issues. I would put one either end just to be on the safe side.
  12. Go onto the BT hub and look for connected devices in the Device Table. Should give you its IP address
  13. Good question ..! And what constitutes a downlighter these days as the LED panel ones appear to be solid aluminium. I plan to have a chat to my BCO about using those with an intumescent sealant as 4mm aluminium is much more than 30min fire resistant. I do plan to put a pair of fire stop valves in the MVHR for the kitchen extracts though - at about £15-20 they seem a decent addition.
  14. Pair of 45 bends is the way to go .... one at each end too ..??
  15. Yep..... Any chance you can do 45 degree and not 90..? Go via a roof terminal ..?
  16. Watching this one - nearly bought one of those a while back, the company in Grimsby that sells them has had a number of names but does seem to do clearance of other people's goods. EBAC have been around for a long time - they ventured into the ASHP market a while back but no longer do them according to their website. http://www.installeronline.co.uk/ebac-launch-a-new-range-of-air-source-heat-pumps/
  17. If you are going render then consider Durisol or ICF - lots of benefits over SIPs and probably slightly more forgiving when it comes to getting the foundations perfectly level. Other options include wood fibre on timber frame - check what @ProDave has done with his build.
  18. Thanks @JSHarris - did you edit the climate data..??
  19. [...] I thought you weren't doing a new build but a renovation..?? If so, Part M doesn't apply.
  20. Anyone got a copy of the PHPP spreadsheet so I can have a bash and see how bad we will really be ........??
  21. It's more likely that the set on the teeth is out which makes it feel dull. You could resharpen it but tbh I would bin it and buy a new one for £10. I have two pruning saws - a £20 one that gets used for general work including roots, and a £90 Silky that I guard with my life and that is amazing .... the difference is the tooth set, as the Silky is set with no external edges so it doesn't jam and is very clean cutting.
  22. @MikeSharp01 that makes very sobering reading ....
  23. I've got one of these and I will get another when it wears out..! Porcelain and granite have been drilled with it and it's superb but pricey..! Marcrist
  24. Did the QS know the budget and have you paid him ..?? I would go back and suggest they value engineer it for you - if you've paid out for a QS service they should be looking for the savings.
  25. I think the key words missing in both of these are ... In the UK mainstream housing market..! UK buyers still don't understand EPC never mind something as complex as a passiv(e) house standard. I would be intrigued to see if RICS have issued any guidance on this as they are the ones suppressing the values.
