Low profile concealed shower valve
PeterW replied to Crofter's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Had a quote this afternoon for a Just Trays 1500x800 at £258 inc the waste. That's a 25mm thick one too. -
How many do you need ..??

I'd buy a pair of decent ovens and set them side by side at just above waist level. Add in a 3 zone induction that can take big pans and you will have spent your £1k but have something vastly more flexible. Unless you go £3-4K plus, domestic gas ovens are the work of the devil and as controllable as a 3 year old in ToysRUs....

MVHR unit poorly installed options?
PeterW replied to tomds's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Hmmm ... I don't even think that is installed to the MIs to be honest ..!! If not you could tell NHBC to sort as it is a defect that should have been corrected. Lots to sort there - but not difficult with a bit of effort if you are handy. -
Tiles this side of the water are very difficult at the moment - bought mine at a 10% premium on the price but at least was guaranteed to finish the job before October ...! @pocster don't rely on the marking on the membrane for setting out your battens - it's only there to make it easier to staple onto a joist when you're putting it on to start with. Gauging stick is needed ....!

You may have to bypass the TMV - it will be set to a specific temperature and will be trying to provide that to the floor. May be worth looking at a zone valve "shunt" that when cooling is called it opens the valve and lets the pump go open circuit. Even with that you may find unless there is a cooler part of the house you will just be moving the heat elsewhere in the house.

The Lake District becomes World Heritage site,
PeterW replied to Triassic's topic in Housing Politics
Planning in any National Park is a nightmare..! On the house pricing I spoke to an estate agent last night about a couple of things and this came up in conversation. She said the converse may happen - people will not buy houses where there are significant restrictions on what you can do to them or where there is an unknown situation. She expects that they will slow or stagnate for 18-24 months until the impacts are fully understood. -

No I mean an app like you have on that waterproof iPhone of yours ..... have you upgraded to iOS 10.3 yet, it does microwave charging - 60 seconds on defrost and you're done... -
Don't talk to me about bat related conditions ... ours was a second bat survey (£650...) and they didn't even ask for a copy of it - I just said it had been done ..!!

Mira do a new remote one now too - you can even turn it on from an app.... -
You're not the only one ..! We decided to see how many of those Scalextrix transformers you could piggyback together ... mates dad had an old dial multimeter that said 3Kv or something daft on it and we tried to measure the output of three that we had wired together ... none of us were good at maths at the time but it's since been calculated that we had about 85Kv (thankfully at milliamp levels ..!) and we wondered why the meter never seemed to work properly again. And we wired the lot together with speaker wire ..!

+1 to what @JSHarris said. We used to have problems on hot sunny days with black MDPE feeding water troughs so I would use 22mm Hep2O if possible. I would have thought the ASHP was a sealed system too not off a header tank..?

UFH pipe literally sandwiched between mesh...a problem?
PeterW replied to mvincentd's topic in Underfloor Heating
Is that going to be a heated aircraft hanger or do you have some exceptionally heavy furniture ...??!!!! -

Change the spec. Bin the A146 as it's only anti crack and have fibres in the concrete mix. Your A146 is acting as a non structural component so the SE doesn't need to sign it off either. -
How do I dispose of ... ?
PeterW replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
So if you look now at most "recycling" centres they are separating waste so the minimum of it goes into the landfill skip. The key reason is they make money out of it ..! Waste is big business and they are now selling your rubbish for cash - most councils will not release the details of their recycling contracts as they are commercially sensitive. The classic example is milk bottle container lids. A lot of councils will not take them (the blue/red/green caps) as they say they "aren't recyclable"... they are LDPE and marked as such ...! Same as the bottles they come off ..!! Reason for not wanting them is colour - clear, white and off white LDPE gets a much higher price than dark colours as it can go into more products as regrind. You are effectively doing their sorting to make money for them ... unpaid ..!- 30 replies

I've not got a photo of it but there are some "interesting" purlins made of 4x2 and plywood holding up the old roof ... suffice to say they came out too as they were definitely not passed by an SE..! Best one below ground was the MDPE doing a 3ft loop under the garage floor ......

Sliders will fit into a standard 90mm wall these days - same as a steel studwork panel.

So.... I've used 22mm T&G Egger that's glued and screwed (against MIs..!) and then put floor heating set in latex self leveling compound and Fiberglass scrim into the SLC in an ensuite. Tiles on top and nothing moved in 10 years so far but I wouldn't want to use it over a larger area. It it does sound counter intuitive but 6mm ply does make a big difference assuming it's properly glued and screwed.

Payment using a credit card - loophole?
PeterW replied to RandAbuild's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Again that's incorrect ... SagePay are a merchant, they are registered as such and they provide full merchant services. PayPal is a grey area as some of their services are NOT merchant services, they are deemed to be payment providers and there is a very big difference. The simple check is to find who the retailer is paid by. Card companies do not like Section 75 it's as simple as that ..! -
You can still buy it ..!! Veneer Lining Paper

Payment using a credit card - loophole?
PeterW replied to RandAbuild's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
That's crap - Worldpay are one of the biggest merchant providers and are very good at what they do. We used to put circa £70m through them with no problems. Sounds like the supplier has not been entirely truthful about something like a chargeback and WorldPay have withheld payment. Martin Lewis is partially correct but you need to know if it's a merchant you are using. The difference is whether they are a merchant provider or a third party provider. For example, PayAnywhere and iZettle are not merchants in their own right, they only act as intermediaries and will then settle via another provider. Worldpay is a merchant and settles directly as do Barclaycard, HSBC and a few others such as LBC, Payzone and Sage Pay. Fairly easy to check via the web too.
