i contacted them, was asked for plans which were sent. i said about ASHP and was told they have good returns with high temp ASHP, told them mine was low temp and have heard nothing since!

bu$$er, thought you had managed to get them over here

not up here, just about every house will be TF after the referendum, Scotland voted to stay part of the UK, see previous quote. brick and block has a poor u value and this is increased by adding insulation in the cavity, which is there to stop water ingress and as that is not sufficient it needs more inside reducing floorspace. it is poor for being airtight and that will be with a good, conscientious brickie and is difficult to make airtight. TF is far easier to make airtight, the insulation is within the wall construction and if you wish to have an expensive brick rainscreen the cavity is still there to do its job.

get someone that knows how to use a spirit level unless you're a joiner of course i recently went round a timber kit manufacturer http://c-c-g.co.uk/divisions/ no connection other than professional knowledge gathering and found a well run operation building houses for councils to passive spec small developments https://www.dormontestate.com/dormont-park/ again no connection other than a visit to see a passive house prior to my build. strangely enough non of the above were there. a professional, trained and experienced workforce. good luck for your build.

Sleeper Walls and Reducing Thermal Bridge
Simplysimon replied to MikeGrahamT21's topic in Floor Structures
if pipes running below insulation, make sure they are well insulated -
a modern version of a slate hook, the old ones i have need a hole bored in the sarking and have the point driven in. i like those, push under a slate and hook onto the nail. ideal for newish roofs but i don't know whether i'd trust them on old nails.

Sleeper Walls and Reducing Thermal Bridge
Simplysimon replied to MikeGrahamT21's topic in Floor Structures
@MikeGrahamT21, a vcl is really not required with the ventilation under the floor. if the dwarf walls are about 2m apart then 100mm joists are fine. good tightly fitted insulation will be fine. how are you supporting the PIR between the joists? your easiest option would be to nail a piece of ply/ osb about 80mm wide under each joist equally spaced and have the PIR sitting on this. btw are you replacing joists as well as flooring? going regularised or o/s for joists as regularised will be 95mm and not 100mm. -
@Yzzy, use the lath to start the fire, it burns fiercely, i had a pile about 4' high from our first house and the flames were about 12' high and you couldn't get near it. certainly get the figs going

well done guys, lots of hard work

timber kit every time, fast erection time and don't bother with brick skin it's an expensive rain screen. i beams for larger insulation space. see touchwood system. as been mentioned before cold bridging needs careful consideration.

hi @bissoejosh i'm in the same position with 350mm beams for the kit and bought a makita ls 1216l, it took a bit of setting up (second hand, almost new, though very little use) to get spot on for 90 deg. 45deg is acc. as well. fantastic bit of kit though as with others, could have better dust extraction. thought of using the radial arm but like the makita more. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-ls1216-dxt-mitre-saw/282924054558?hash=item41df96781e:g:A~QAAOSw2PtauUGe

hi folks, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to whether these are any good https://www.aldi.co.uk/easy-home-double-wall-socket-2-pack/p/081693190736000 cheers

a lot more benefits than cable runs, yes it takes longer, but a far better job especially if using solid timber joists. and college was probably about the same time as me so no chop saw which will reduce time
