  1. I too have a dual fuel rangemaster with bottled gas, builder laid a yellow plastic gas pipe around the house to the side where we also have the ASHP. The pipe was converted to copper before entering the house to abide with gas regs, gas chap turned up and signed off the pipework for BC. I did not go for 47kg bottles but 19kg and I can’t remember the last time one was changed? (It’s sure to run out now I’ve said that ?)
  2. Like @Big Jimbo fir me, nearest the door even with the wastage. (The off centre toilet would annoy me and my OCD).
  3. Not a subject I know much about but on a simplistic level I would have thought the inverter could disconnect from the grid if the grid conditions are not correct but still be able to generate into your batteries?
  4. I got my builders sparky to do mine with me doing the grunt, firstly I was too busy to do everything. The Sparky was happy fir me to do this as he was very busy and considered cutting back boxes in a waste of his skills. Job done ?
  5. I have used push fit 110 in my ceilings, if it’s good enough for under ground?.???
  6. Yes, anything to avoid blockages and bends do slow the flow a lot . Is there any reason you can’t do this.
  7. my sons Labour is free (it’s me ??????) and plasterboard is relatively cheap, don’t know about the price of soundblock?
  8. So double boarding with 12.5mm is better than 15mm soundbloc ( this is what I did recently on my sons house)
  9. Despite having insulation between floors I sooo wish I had double boarded or/and resilient bars, it’s the only “I wish I had done that” for my build, sound travel between floors is more than I expected ?
  10. anyone want to buy a rental in ?Bristol?.?..??
  11. that would be difficult fir us as all floors/ceilings are concrete. Perhaps I should just let them get on with it then no hassle. If I did do the work I guess they would want to inspect again to get the certificate, which is another expense ?
  12. I have I joists and “some” services including MVHR and found no problems but made sure we drilled holes where the regs allowed. Both my builder and I fitted the joists at 400mm centres even tho they were designed fir 600 centres to give a stiffer floor.
  13. Thanks guys, the sparky says the smoke alarms should be “remote” ( just googled the “angel” and they are wireless linked), it’s this I am questioning. Just googled it and cannot find any reference to having to have linked smoke alarms.???
  14. Personally I would use two 45’ bends if it’s possible to get them in, if not 90’ (ish!) ones will do but maybe more prone to blockages ?
  15. Like some on here we rent out our old house and the agent has told us it now needs an EICR certificate, it was tested and failed on a few minor points which the electrician has given us a quote. A few minor things, like loose ceiling rose, I can fix myself but the quote included installing “two fire angel Remote smoke detectors. “. The property has two battery smoke detectors that I fitted myself, are these now not sufficient? Also they recommend changing out the CU to an 18th edition metal clad model, I know these are now a requirement for new builds but the existing one is serviceable in my opinion, thoughts please? if I mend the few minor problems and decline the smoke detectors and 18th edition CU will I have to pay fir another test to achieve a certificate?
  16. Went to the dentist yesterday, notice on the door “if you have visited any of these countries recently you are not allowed to enter” a list of about 8 countries followed. been there ,done that, conference calls are far greener than travelling by any means.
  17. if you leave nothing of value in it, what’s to steal, remove the wheels and tow hitch and it can’t be knicked . If you spend £250 on a van it’s not worth knicking ?
  18. oh no your not!!! I can’t understand anyone buying a house on a flood plane, but then again I can’t understand anyone building a house on a flood plane ?

    We have a leak

Really sorry to hear this, no easy way to find water tracking in. Hosepipe on roof and keep digging till the source can be seen. Personally I hate flat roofs fir this very reason.
  20. that’s why we are all here, to learn.
  21. who scheduled window sizes? who scheduled size of window hole in timber frame? i know it’s blame culture but someone is at fault and I hope they have insurance (unless it’s you ?)
  22. I bought our showers from different suppliers (tray - enclosure-mixers) just make sure the measurements are accurate.
  23. I had a static van on site fir “builders facilities “, we still had our old house 130miles away which my wife lived in as she still worked there. Council “asked” me to pay council tax on the van but I proved we still had another house which we lived in so they gave up. In reality I lived in the static 5 days a week and week ended back in our old house. I think it’s a very good idea, it will give you somewhere to relax (if that’s possible) and have your family around you on site ?.
  24. I built in brick and block to passive principles (not certificated ) and it works very well, it’s just down to attention to detail.
  25. yes. I asked on this forum. Not sure who advised me, may have been the welsh wizard but it was a long time ago,!, if I remember correctly it was said that even a toilet flushing will not completely fill a 110mm diameter pipe so a 110mm AAV is not required. In the time since my build was finished I have had no problem with “suction” even without anti vac traps.
