Why is so much plumbing stuff such utter rubbish?
joe90 replied to ProDave's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
haha, that’s exactly what I am doing today, all stuff out on the drive, sweeping up, crap on the trailer ( for when the tip opens) and all tools back in their proper place, gosh it’s great being retired, think I will walk the dog after lunch ?. -

This is why I love mechanic ing (playing) with my 54 year old car, 60 year old tractor and 64 year old dumper, fully repairable, all bits available and no “specialist tools” to work on them. (Just finished re building the dumper engine with thanks to @scottishjohn for his help). -
Building regs ? Building up to the boundary
joe90 replied to LindfieldRes's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
that’s a parapet wall! And do it in fibre glass . -
Yes I went with electric towel rads on timers, cost pennies to run .

Building regs ? Building up to the boundary

that is my thoughts as well, no hassle in the future. Not sure about the gap but a cat won’t fall down a 50mm hole!!!! My brothers neighbour built up to his boundary and ended up with facia and guttering over his patio, He did not complain as he is very laid back, during heavy rain it over spilt onto his patio do they had to add even bigger guttering to cope, if it were me I would not be happy. -
I have cleared loads of wasps nests when re roofing houses, as long as I can’t see any wasps nearby!

With regard legionella I have not bothered with my set up, as @PeterWSays above no legal requirement and other threads here have shown that in a domestic situation there is virtually no risk.

Planning requirement for 1.8M panelled fence?
joe90 replied to Topic63's topic in Introduce Yourself
Nah, just do it and cite the above if any questions asked. After my experience with planners I would not pay them in washers. They told me things that were plain lies and it took an appeal to sort them out ( I won and the council were told they were not abiding by their own policies ?). -

Yes, tell the neighbour your doing it as it does not need planning permission, cite the above link if they argue. -
It depends if the door is insulated/ draghtproof .

It’s your garage, not the brickies, tell him it will be a gym in reality so you are going to polish it! Full stop. If he takes offence he is not a reasonable chap/contractor. Just make sure it’s laid early am so you have time to polish it (without working in the dark!!!)

Power floating is very good IF it’s done at the right time. With my current garage my builder laid the concrete and tamped it flat and I hired a power float and was told to do it the next morning but it only bounced off the surface, it was too late, have regretted it ever since. My previous garage had a polished floor after I power floated that one ?.i don’t understand why your bricklayer does not like power floating ( mind, he may do a brilliant job with a large float!)

Sorry @AnonymousBosch you need to dig it all up again ??????only joking, get the rest lined up and see what angle you need.

@LA3222 I don’t “do” Facebook but is it worth a try asking fir a self employed brickie locally, if sites are being shut you may be lucky.

I was looking fir one with a cast top but could not find one (that I could afford) I bought one of these https://www.screwfix.com/p/scheppach-hs120-315mm-brushless-electric-table-saw-240v/15413 but with another name on it, and cheaper. Very good but not accurate enough for furniture making. Always get an induction motor, soo much quieter and easier to live with.

We have had no heating on fir many weeks, the sunspace heats the house very well, in fact we have had to shut the bifolds today to stop the house overheating. Can’t remember the last time we lit the wood stove.

battens come in two basic dimensions: 25 x 38mm and 25 x 50mm. I used the 25 x 50, more than adequate IMO.

@pocster I think this is what you need. https://www.bes.co.uk/polypipe-universal-40-mm-white-to-solvent-socket-abs-11142?ref=gs&photo=true&gclid=CjwKCAjwvtX0BRAFEiwAGWJyZOkfNqHDOsCN8hUBkVPfApVCdqPiG2oDvHGSJ-VeoqKinkvk_4IGExoCm88QAvD_BwE

Is it solvent weld pipe ? If I remember solvent weld pipe is a little bigger than compression, also make sure pipe is fully inserted into socket , then push rubber into socket with some silicone lube. This is a problem with mixing compression with weld fittings (but they should go in.) just found this. An example: A 40mm push-fit pipe has a 40-41mm external diameter but a 40mm solvent pipe has a 43mm external diameter. The difference between the two means they aren’t directly compatible
