External electric and gas meter boxes in single skin walls
joe90 replied to Moonshine's topic in Electrics - Other
My electric meter is in my detached garage but CU is in the house in a plant room! -
I think I remember regs saying 2m height min but not across whole width of stairs (from my loft conversion days!,!!)
-
Can you not just ring your BCO and ask him?, the fan would protrude less than 30mm, less than your roof overhang/facia/guttering (I guess?). This would be the simplest solution. If you have to go through ceiling void, fan set 1m from wall in ceiling (over toilet) and run flexi through joists to outside (more work than solution 1).
-
ha, I was about to post about the floor void!. If using i joists there IS a limit on hole size and location near the ends.
-
is this the case? I can see why a boiler vent could not do this but a toilet fan? Best ask your BCO.

External electric and gas meter boxes in single skin walls

Personally I don’t like the look of external meter boxes which is why mine is mounted on the back of an detached garage not my oldy worldy cottage. My electric meter is in a single skin block wall and pokes through a little. Can’t you mount it to the left of the garage door so it not by the front door? -
No, you don’t have the house you paid him to design!!! p.s. I am in my sixties but can still design a staircase even without any qualifications ?
-
that beggars belief !!!! too right, i designed my staircase using pencil and paper with relevant dimensions and angles, it’s not rocket science. I don’t know what qualifications he has but I am surprised he is still in business. I think that is professional incompetence. Sue him!

+1 for local charities, as said they are a good make and it would be good fir a charity to make something from them and green being re cycled ? -
I paid £250 for my air test but others here paid less I think ?
-
One contains wiring to treatment plant, another contains gas pipe from bottled gas, another contains incoming water main, everything else is “in house..
-
Local architects should give advise on what the planners will require ( if like us the planners were not helpful).
-
With my services through my floor (gas, water pipes etc) I used a 70mm flexible duct a bit like the MVHR stuff, sealed with expanding foam then topped with silicone sealer.
-
It’s a circular bread knife (the vid did not show PIR).
-
Does it not depend on planning permission initially (suitable access)?

Keeping it Internally Down to a Dull Roar
joe90 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Waste & Sewerage
I lined the lid of my treatment plant with that acoustic foam as the lid acted like a drum, works very well. Like @Jeremy Harris I wrapped rockwall round my internal poo pipe in a ceiling and that works well , I can only hear water noise in the plant cupboard as I did not insulate it there (on my extensive “to do” list) -
Regs is regs for safety and they are to be abided with and they are written by experts, if someone wants to “go overboard” because they consider it safer then so be it but that does not mean the regs are wrong. I know a piece of 4x2 will hold up xyz but if the regs say 2x2 is sufficient who am I to argue.?.

my temp connection was months before the garage was being built.
-
I was sooo lucky, my builder was brilliant and even as a retired builder myself (so know mostly what should be done) I could not fault their work. BUT there are so many cowboys out there. I always recommend people go by reputation with trades people and ask to speak to previous customers .
-
I did a temp kiosk, was a GRP “in wall “ meter box on two fence posts, next to my garage that was being built. When the garage was built I swung the meter box into a hole in the wall of the garage as it’s permanent location , I didn’t have to pay the DNO to move it as the cable was long enough ?. p.s. don’t hit a GRP kiosk with a JCB, it will end in tears, guess how I know ?
-
+1, bloody shite and not fit for purpose.
-
My work shop is about the same size and we are on heavy clay (but no trees) I put no insulation under a 6” concrete slab with steel reinforcement and didn’t insulate as the roof is steel with no insulation so any heat would escape as quickly as it came in. I dream of a two post lift but don’t do that much car work anymore. I wear my old ski ing kit when working in cold weather ?????

Is this one reason there is a permanent UK housing crisis...
joe90 replied to Bitpipe's topic in Housing Politics
I am ex BT and I agree with the above, also BT wanted to stream tv etc but was stopped in its tracks by government who wanted to open up the market.
