UFH with existing Radiators and system boiler
Nickfromwales replied to Silage's topic in Underfloor Heating
If you fit a Thermal store, it'll double up as a hot water tank ( via an integral instantaneous coil ) and also provide a means of buffering the heat delivery from the oil boiler. Plus, you can dump all your excess pv into it. ST is a one trick pony so unless you are at passive levels then I'd not even bother considering it. Pv is SO much more useful in comparison. Alternative is a small / medium buffer and an UVC. Cons with a TS is you need it hot 24/7 for the months that you require heating ( to get DHW ). Pros with a TS is you only need one tank. Edit to add : also less plumbing, controls and associated expenses with the TS too.- 36 replies

If the 'excessive' presence only serves to stop any 'momentum' with any like minded individuals, then it will be welcome and possibly life saving. There is no right way to fight or deter these deluded, despicable people, but any visible measure is obviously better than none, but how do you combat terrorism? I'd not like to be tasked with that responsibility, nor to receive the blame and ridicule when it still proves ineffective. God speed to the organisations and individuals who do their utmost to keep us safe whilst we go about our business, and let's be grateful for the liberties we enjoy in this country as a result. My oldest daughter is 8, and I couldn't imagine waking up to that bed being empty. RIP.

How much is a simple concrete slab for a barn likely to cost?

Ok folks, let's continue the chat her please

One tried and tested method here is to get a weathertight and certified 'airtight' structure from one source. That leaves you dry, secure and free to complete the internals by yourself, at your leisure whilst having an incredibly fast build time.

In screed makes no sense. Cold water won't be cold . Don't forget to lag the cold feeds too to stave off any heat absorption . -
Terrible, terrible news. ?

Where does it get the air intake from?

What do the MI's for the drier say regarding it being boxed above ?

It's not a vent . It's a redundant strap on boss which has had a cleaning eye ( aka rodding eye ) fitted into it to blank it off. Prob picked up a waste pipe in another life . Cut it out and get rid as its a liability. ?

Let's find out with loads of tricky, sparky-related questions ! Hi and welcome to the forum. ?

Top man. I forgot that a lot of the automatic air vents I fit come with those so you can change / service them without draining down the whole system. I'd recommend them on the aav's for this system too ? I think the drain off ( tap with yellow lever valve ) under the temp gauge is for draining / sampling the water, and the other is for filling / injecting new product ( glycol ) as I believe there will be a non return after the second drain off. Try blowing through it both ways ( with your hand over the spout that comes out at 45 degrees ).

Seasonal is a 'nicks term' for a buffer that you can have come into play when using the gas boiler, but not when using the ashp. It could also be set to come into play when the heat battery in the mvhr is set to work. Can also provide a bit of stored, pv-generated excess energy for DHW preheat, but the latter wouldn't be the sole reason for fitting it, more a handy bi-product of fitting it to 'tame' the gas boiler. Again, a solution unique to the problem / remit. Edited to add : sorry for the bum steer, just typing whilst leaving the house

The air battery would deffo not be suitable for use with the gas boiler. That would, when run independently and used solely for space heating, even be a bit 'small' for the ashp. Sizing correctly here will be paramount, or fit a 'seasonal' buffer and all these issues disappear.

Toolstation Epic Fail
Nickfromwales replied to Barney12's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
My mate came to cove a bathroom for me and stood on the corner of the £380 bath. Took it clean off. Ended up arguing over it and my mate wouldn't accept liability. Needles to say he didn't get paid for the coving but still hurt my wallet as the bath was fitted and fully furnished with 4 tap hole arrangement and sika flexed in place . 3 weeks later the replacement arrived ( holding the entire job up as I couldn't final fix the vanity run as the bath had to go in first ). New bath arrives and I set about fitting the feet and plumbing the 4 hole set back in. Part of that was fitting pipe clips to the chipboard underbelly so I could have the bath set tested and pre-plumbed with the isolation valves and supply pipework at the front of the bath for access, prior to fitting. I ask the ( lazy bugger, sacked a bit later down the line ) apprentice for screws and on the 4th screw I hear a pop. I put a screw through the clip, through the deck and through the bottom of the bath. One odd screw in the selection box that wasn't supposed to be in there and I just fired it home in my haste to impress the customer with their nice working tiled bath. ? Another bath ordered, 3 weeks delay again, and £760 + 2 days labour down the tubes. Haven't heard from the customer since. . I didn't ask for a reference. -
