  1. If it's wet UFH then definitely install that in the bedrooms as well. I would (I did) put each bedroom on it's own floor loop and programmable stat. That way each can be independently controlled allowing guest rooms to be cooler or even off when unoccupied. If nothing else when you come to sell it will be easier if you can claim full central heating. You can get special low TOG underlay for use with UFH. Hessian backed carpet also has a lower TOG than rubber backed. Watch out for small print that allows a shop to supply either version of the same carpet.
  2. That wording is a bit strange because he can't formally appeal until he has been served with an enforcement notice. Don't confuse letters threatening enforcement with an actual enforcement notice. If he is certain he can't find a way to prove 10 year use then I think I would submit a planning application for the park home asap. They won't normally issue an enforcement notice while there is a live planning application. That could take three months to be determined. Then you have a further 6 months (5 for safety) in which to submit an appeal which itself might take 6-9 months to be decided because the appeal service is busy. It's after all that they normally issue a formal enforcement notice....and you can appeal that taking up even more time.
  3. I think lenders are paranoid because of the sub prime crash. For years they bought and sold each other bundles of mortgages that were supposedly AAA rated but which turned out to be anything but. If they only lend on properties that are squeaky clean they can put that converted AAA wrapper around it/them when they sell them on.
  4. As long as it has your name on it you should be ok. If I remember correctly a store receipt (rather than a VAT receipt) is ok for items below £30. Permanent fencing can be reclaimed. It's listed in VAT 708. Temporary site fencing probably not. Plants can only be reclaimed if on a landscaping plan forming part of the planning package.
  5. No bids yet.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GPS-50MM-DIA-100M-COIL-BLUE-PE-TUBE-MDPE/173005833150?hash=item2847f383be:g:TO0AAOSwfVhaHshA
  6. Ok this is what really bugs me about the renewable industry in the UK.. I found this map of the Cleve Hill site on the Daily Mail web site. If you compare it with the area on Google maps you find that most of the site is well away from houses. What looks like development to the south turns out to be a large poly tunnel farm. So far so good... However the south eastern part of the site appears to extend right up to a group of 5 or 6 houses that I've circled in red. So it appears they could easily build 99.9% of the scheme without impacting anyone's house value but oh no they have to use every square inch of land they can get. Even if they don't plan to put panels on that bit the fact that the official site boundary is so close would be enough to put people off buying those houses
  7. If the electric cable follows same route perhaps put in a new fatter water pipe in at same time?
  8. Go to the yard where the sleepers are stored and see if you can smell them. Some do some don't. Some will be in worse condition than others, very variable. Don't put them where people are likely to sit during a garden party or BBQ. Ours still leak something black and sticky ten years after they went in.
  9. What Tennentslager said. WC should ideally connect into the top of the horizontal run using a swept bend to "point" things in the right direction.
  10. From the Daily Fail but even so... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5099557/Criminals-kill-MILLIONS-remotely-hacking-cars.html and from last year.. https://www.wired.com/2016/08/jeep-hackers-return-high-speed-steering-acceleration-hacks/
  11. What does that last bit mean? Tell him to try harder. Normally they can't take action after 4 years but it's 10 years in the case of "change of use". Try finding the parkhome on google images/maps or other sites with old sat images. Failing that did he declare rental income to HMRC? Does it have a phone line? Electricity bills? If he can prove 10 years use then he can submit an application for lawful use on the grounds that they can no longer initiate enforcement action. Should sail through if he can find enough evidence. Probably a nightmare if he can't.
  12. I would ask the IT guys what they want you to do. They will have to maintain it. You may not need a patch cabinet, just a router with lot of ports to plug into. If there are 8-10 people I would go for one with 16 ports allowing for printers etc. Whatever you do I suggest using a proper cable marking system to number both ends of the cables.
  13. Next time he visits hand him a small cable locator and say "you will probably need this to check the location of the staples as we've tapped over them" :-)
  14. Gas lighting makes some sense, after all it's cheaper than electricity, but I think they stopped making the gas powered iPhone some time ago.

  16. You can get underlay with a TOG of around 0.6. If fitting carpet.... Some carpets are made in two versions, one with a hessian backing and one with a foam rubber backing. The hessian version will probably have a lower TOG which is better for UFH. Watch out for small print in the contract that allows the shop to supply either version.
  17. It will probably take some bad winter weather to get your set up right. Ours is set roughly as follows (we have someone home most days).. Night 16C Getting up 20C Daytime 18C Evening 20C We have a stat in most rooms so things like the bathroom are warmer. Unused bedrooms set at 16C constantly. Living room warmer at weekends etc. Transition between two temperature settings can take 1-2 hours so they are set that much earlier depending on the room. Still not quite perfect. Occasionally there is a slight dip in temperature when it transitions from the daytime setting to the evening setting. Could be we loose solar gain rapidly and it can take awhile for the UFH to replace it? Could be the sun shining on the stat itself holding it off without providing solar gain? One day I'll get around to figuring out what causes it but it's not a big problem.
  18. That's the only way I know.
  19. Oops forgot to add... You can reclaim the vat if you buy the turf but if your contractor supplies and lays it his labor and the turf should be zero rated to you.
  20. Yes grass is ok. See last bullet point in section 3.3.4 here... https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-708-buildings-and-construction/vat-notice-708-buildings-and-construction Things like plant or trees are different. Can only claim for those if they were on an agreed landscaping plan in your planning grant.
  21. Some people swear by them others are sceptical about them. I reckon corrosion inhibitor is more important.
  22. Fire spread risk?
  23. Search VAT708 for fence. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-708-buildings-and-construction/vat-notice-708-buildings-and-construction They come under ...."the means of providing security (such as walls, fences and gates..."
  24. Perhaps talk to a Physiotherapist about k-laser treatment. My son broke a finger and the surgeon recommend it to speed up healing. http://www.woodfieldphysio.co.uk/laser-therapy/
  25. You might find that on the makers web site. Save bothering the frame company.
