  6. Laco Slic-tite is superb. I use it on steam air and gas and it's pretty impressive stuff. A bit messy perhaps but seals up every time.

  9. I've the previous incarnation of the gennie- £65 at the warehouse clearance last autumn. It's pretty impressive- smart throttle using a stepper motor. Doesn't idle down that low with no load and hunts a little under low loads when cold, but as @Crofter says it pushes out the watts...

  13. Yes, I'm liking the Rewatec Solido from Wastewater Direct, they've been the most helpful I've had a conversation with so far and it doesn't hinder that they're nice and local for commissioning etc.
  14. Buying the site cash, and remortgaging the current pad to fund enough of the build to be habitable. Lane is already in as is water, transformer is the other side of a bordering laneway (the poles come along our side of the fence), BT line comes down the lane to the newbuild just beside "our" plot. Youngster is going into P6 this year and we currently live about a quarter mile from his school so no point moving til he goes to big school; that give a reasonable timeframe I hope.
  15. So where are we at then. Design is finalised. Just waiting now for the final docs to arrive. Thus far, dealing with Shaun has been an absolute dream. Far from being just another "off-book" plan he's totally redrawn and redesigned the basic house. He's considered economies of build, taken on board my view of the site, and denied nothing we've asked for. Totally "un-architecty". I'm kinda sitting on my hands a bit now tho until the solicitors square everything up. There's a long shared lane so a couple of parties to involve. But once that's completed, I've a planning consultant cued up to make the requisite application, and will take advice on how best to apply for the Consent to Discharge. Other services look OK all things being considered. So once the site completes, what can I do "on the ground"? Get a machine in for a day and scrape the grass off in the vicinity of the build?Put a gate or chain up? I'm guessing not much more as the original footings will likely need to remain for inspection. Any thoughts?
  16. ^ but many do have a sump/ condensate tray heater. I'd contend tho tha it's likely to be a sightly better irem than the defrost heaters used by Beko et al.
  17. just remember it's live with 50v dc and that they get grumpy if you pop the fuse in the exchange, and you're golden.
  18. I've just purchased a cheapo wildlife cam to put on the site (once it's finally ours) that'll alert me via an emailed capture within a minute or two. Pretty impressive tech.
  19. cylinder/pipe stat? Between the cooldown time of the pipe and demister, and the hysteresis of the stat, there should be plenty of overrun.
  20. Inverters are SO much nicer to weld with than transformers. Watch the warranty carefully- smaller/ cheaper ones only have one PCB that does everything and a chargeable replacement generally costs more than a new welder. This onle looks like a good choice tho. Treat youself to the scratch TIG kit and some Hobbyweld gas if a lot of stainless is on the to-do list
  21. The plenum being referred to here is a two- or three- pipe manifold acting as a header for the terminal. Plenum generally implies a change in dimension or velocity too, in my experience. And that's exactly what these terminal *headers* do- taking a number of pipes and transforming the flow from them in speed, and direction, whilst changing size. A restricted terminal installed on one then offers resistance which brings damping/silencing into it also...

  23. What about using a duct cooler like was mentioned in the Larder thread to take some heat out of the supply? Worthwhile?
  24. Motor valves then Nick surely. I'd be wanting to divorce the Boiler (heat source) from the rad circuit to try and maximise stratification. Although, I'm thinking of my own scenario which will be a bit belt and braces (ASHP and boiler stove plus immersun on PV) and I want to keep the top of the tank hot for the DHW , tapping off lower down for UFH as oversized rads.
  25. I'm looking at a Copper Industries Maxipod (a near clone of the McDonald)and you'd definitely need the third pump as the TS is controlled indepenent of the heating circuits.
