Vat reclaim
dpmiller replied to johns's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
From my reading of the HMRC blurb, VAT can be claimed back on the build of a garage associated with the new residence, as long as it's on the plans. In our case I'm looking at a simple insulated steel-clad shed (to try and fit in with the agricultural vernacular). Would anyone see a problem with supply and erect of such a structure being claimed for or zero rated at purchase? -
Latch for tube construction gate

car exhaust clamps may be in your future. -
Get some Essex flanges and put the taps wherever you like.

depends how much water it's removing. Keep the box well sealed and there shouldn't be much, What about putting a wrap on the pipe to act as a wick, might be able to balance new condensation with a bit of evaporation?

Thinking about this again. Our design has a pantry space pretty much in the core of the house. Off the utility room, backing onto the stairwell. It'll be void of underfloor heat obviously. Here's what I'm thinking, please pick holes in it as you desire. Sealed door. Thinking a secondhand UPVC external door, but what *is* the U value of a bog-standard eggbox external door? Underscreed vent for fresh air supply Ceiling vent for convective outflow. say, 40mm PIR behind the PB. screed separated from the utility at the threshold. Now here's the question. What about building blocks up through a void in the underfloor insulation and pouring this bit of screed on them?

does it depend on the volume of the boiler maybe?

Oddly enough I was watching a program a few nights back on Quest about plane crashes and it alluded to earlier "fireproofing" techniques actually producing more smoke and (if conditions were right) burning hotter than non- proofed items.

aye. blade and adaptor off, then scaffold bar (or whatever fits better) on the shaft.
-
no recommendations on a new'un but if you've nothing to lose try straightening the shaft?

had one for about ten years with no issues other tha one of the feet coming off. Plenty sturdy and easy to operate.

"British" style gas ovens- burner at the back- are supremely controllable. The "continental" type with the burner underneath is in my experience crap. Personally, I wouldn't cook on anything but gas and nothing toasts quite like a gas grill, but I am very likely to go for one of those 90cm Rangemasters in gas, to get the handy extra fan oven at the side. Truth be told, with only the three of us in the house the Panasonic combi microwave does a fair share. Superb for baked spuds, frozen pizza and the like...

natural gas or LPG? Not much choice if you want all- gas on LPG.

Altering Corian worktops?? Easy or not??

Now that's nice work, @Onoff -
Being involved with air compressors and autoclaves I'd have to agree with @billt. never mind water reducing the chances of the pipes floating up in the screed.

Maplin's gone downhill badly- as have CPC in a way- too many kiddie gadgets. I spent my teens working in a local TV and video repair shop, and we sold a fair few components. Heck, the boss tried to entice maplin over here about ten years before they finally came over.

Cheap simple and accurate try something like Ebay item 1688573745, I use one to control a circ fan on top of a rad and it's been seamless for a couple of years. Pay a few quid more for a UK vendor if you're in a rush 112079287480.

anyone for a flyaround?
-
Aye. As the existing approval is pre-PPS21 I'm going to spend a few quid getting a consultant to do the dirty deed. Sounds like ANDBC planning is running about 8 months behind so I only want to do it once and the right man might be able to apply some leverage. Hopefully. I'd be happier if we could get completion on the site first tho...

woohoo we have plans!
