Our EPS raft is laid on 50mm granite fines for drainage and the EPS is Peripor which has very high compressive strength and has very low water absorption.

Come off it, I've had mine dug up once already.

That Roofers Been Signed Off Sick

Can't he recommend someone. -
We had secondary glazing on some of the windows in our old bungalow. We found it to be very effective once all the the draughts had been eliminated. So as has already been said, draught proofing the original sashes, and secondary glazing system if necessary, should improve things greatly.

The Genvex Combi 185LS we have uses a small, 585W, EASHP. This heats the water and provides supplementary air heating through the MVHR system. This means the air being supplied to the living rooms is never below room temperature, so never feels cold. This system works well for us because we have a small house which is very airtight and has very well insulated walls, roof and floor with U factors < 0.1W/m2K. This means we don't need UFH. I ran many iterations of the PHPP to find what levels of insulation and airtightness were required for our house to use the Genvex Combi 185LS. It wouldn't work as the sole form of heating and DHW in a larger house or house with higher U factors.

Hi from Snowdonia - Welsh cottage renovation. 100% newbie
Gone West replied to connick159's topic in Introduce Yourself
Hi Connick, welcome to the forum. We've all started knowing a lot less than we do now. Persevere and you'll get there in the end and ask as many questions as you like, they won't be daft. Good luck with the project. PS You're in a lovely part of the world, do you have any pictures of the house. -
We are A95 without any renewables so to reach A100 wouldn't need much in the way of PVs. Get your SAP calculations checked and if you really need 11.7kW of PVs then the fabric of the building/air tightness needs improving.

Icynene is definitely not DIY. Can only be done through installers.

Grand Designs Gravenhill - Budget vs Reality
Gone West commented on Ferdinand's blog entry in God is in the Details
When was the programme made? Prices around here have gone up a lot in the last 3 years or so, can't get anything half decent for less than £150K. Isn't that why you moved to Scotland from Oxfordshire, not comparing like for like.- 27 comments

MVHR - sucking in polluted air
Gone West replied to Moggaman's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
If you can smell something you must be breathing in molecules of the substance but whether they can be dangerous or not I'm not sure. What do you think @JSHarris. -
Yours are the same size as mine and my ledger plate was 250mm x 50mm.

Welcome to the forum @eekoh. We weren't asked for any ecological surveys as part of our planning permission. I look out for bats on summer evenings but don't see many unfortunately.

The only things I would do differently would be to do less work myself and to have built in external blinds on the WNW facing glazing. Having lived in the house for a full year now we are very happy with how the house has performed overall.

@Bitpipe Is it possible to put a temperature sensor behind the Parex boards to see if there is a significant heat build up? I would be surprised if a ventilated cavity behind a white surface would get that hot.

@Ferdinand So 10mm as a minimum and the link recommends 20mm for replacement slots in mitigation work.

IIRC the slits in the bat boxes we put up were about 15mm. Pipistrelle bats are very small, probably smaller than a mouse and they get through small gaps.

What size whacker plate for concrete floor prep?
Gone West replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Tools & Equipment
I've used one of the Evolution electric compactors for my parking area and I will use it for my workshop base. I used <50mm crushed concrete in ~70mm layers up to 200mm and it worked surprisingly well. I wanted to be able to take my time through January when the weather was good so buying my own made sense. For the final wack I will hire a much larger one for a day. https://www.speedyservices.com/18_0104-h-forward-reversible-compactor-plate-diesel-400mm-16in -

I've got Senco 1st and 2nd fix gas guns, over eight years old now. The 1st fix only gets dragged out occasionally these days to fix fence panels and the like but still works ok after a battery charge.

Roof window for loft conversion /replacement master thesis help
Gone West replied to annmarli's topic in Introduce Yourself
Hi, welcome to the forum. I have built a Passivhaus which has a roof window. The roof window was fitted around eight years ago and was not a Velux because at the time Velux did not produce a roof window without trickle vents so I fitted a Fakro. Sorry I can't be of more help.
