  1. This is my dumb question of the day. Why do the cages, steelwork etc, have to be tied together with bits of wire, when they are all going to be encased in concrete ? Would plastic cable ties not do the same job ? There you go, told you it was a dumb question.
  2. Don't disappear anytime soon NICKFROMWALES. I can see me having a fair few questions for you when the time comes. Great advice above.
  3. Nothing. Do it.
  4. Not wanting to hijack, but my daughters is the other way around. Pair of semi's and my daughters has the incoming. This comes into the understairs cupboard to a 60amp fuse, and exits from the fuse out through a hole, up the wall, and is clipped to the underside of the soffit, running around the back of the house, and around to the property next door. If my daughter was away, and the neighbour managed to blow the main fuse, how would access be gained to my daughters property to fix it ? If my daughters fridge was off for any time, the drugs that she has to inject herself with weekly would be distroyed. (They cost the NHS a fair few bob) Would anybody now if i can insist that the supply be removed, and that a new supply is fitted to the next door property ? Thanks.
  5. I now always use manifolds for heating. I run from the manifolds to the rads in plastic. The whole point for me, is that i won't have any joints below floors, or above ceilings, or anywhere where i can't get to them in the future.
  6. Cut out a section of the floor near the doors, and fit some walk on glazing ?
  7. Run all your garden stuff, car washing etc, before it goes through the meter, and just put one w.c. handbasin through the meter. Very small water bills.
  8. No offence. I just think that holes, and underground stuff is in the blood of an Irishman. It certainly is in my family
  9. Yep. I see it now. After your in house leaking stoptap. What a bloody nightmare. So the risk is Water pi$$ing out in your house, and nowhere outside to shut if off. That's crap,. I would defo be clamping that blue pipe off, within your land and fitting a stop tap of some sort. Should'nt be that hard.
  10. Steamy Tea. You always make me laugh, so thank you. Most of us say, i did this, and its brill, or my house is great because of x. You however, are always having a dig at your poor house. Lucky for you it it can't talk back. please don't stop though, It always makes me smile, and we need more things in the world to help us do that. Your posts and the other one about "walk on glazing" are priceless.
  11. Believe me, nobody will even notice. You can grind your screed, but £10 it still wont allow you tiles to be set level. Nothing worse than seeing tiles that sombody has obviously tried to ramp down to a door. It looks sh17e, especially if they distort a reflection.
  12. No i get that. So when your doors are open, and you are outside looking in, all you can see is a little stainless upstand rather that the cut edges of tiles.
  13. Sealing up like above is good, as it stops the ants finding a route into your kitchen. Once the buggers get in, it is a right pain to try and seal up afterwards. My daughter has a huge fear of ants, so as i was doing her property, every single little gap that i found, was filled with silicon
  14. I have always done as PeterW above. 300+kitchens and never a complaint. (I make sure i move ever 3 months, and never leave a trail) ?
  15. If , you were to say "I want a water meter please" where would they put it ? Actually, i might have to take that back. When they did my daughters they stuck it in the corner of the back room, and i stuck a removable boxing over it. There is however a stop tap out in the street. No stoptap outside seems like utter madness. I went through an old lead main in an old kitchen, below the stoptap. If i hadn't been able to leg it outside, and shut it off in the street, i dont know what i would have done.... Madness, madness, they call it madness.
  16. It's difficult, if i gave someone a set of drawings with levels, and they had to alter them for whatever reason. I would hope that they would bring it to my attention, so that i could consider the possible implications of the alterations. However, a lot of drawings just say "falls to suit"
  17. If you are not bothered about the rebated overlap, you could just use a piece of thin matching wood on the relevant door to cover the gap.
  18. Some of the detailing that used to be put into our properties was stunning. Even large, posh new builds don't seem to bother. I worked on a new 12million pound house a couple of years back with Black plastic gutters, and downpipes ! Some people just don't seem to see, or value the detail.
  19. i always go to great pains to try and get my door thresholds standing up about 25mm or so. it wont give me level, but i can live with the 8mm or so, (better than the 4 0r 5 inches you can end up with) I would run the tiles level, and finish the edge with a nice stainless tile trim if my doors have been set low. Just take care to ensure that the opening door does not foul the tiles.
  20. I bet that connection to the mains is reduced internally. I can't believe (although i can see) no company stop tap.
  21. You are making me , and Joe90 very jealous. Be very careful, or you may end up with the pair of us squatting at your place, with our old cars. P.s i don't take sugar in my tea, but do like lots of it please.
  22. Welcome. Ater all the stress, fingers crossed for some fun times for you now.
  23. You can , i'm sure, pick up, single phase, Two car post lifts, secondand, for about £500. if you had the height, use it , and sell it on when you have finished.
  24. The painting systems used for plastics involve specialist primers etc. I have used a pure HVLP that i have had for a good few years, with a quality gun, that i can wind the pattern from about 15" wide down to about 1". The only paints i know of for spraying plastic are acid cat paints (2 part) so you have to take care of breathing it in, aand should always have a seperate air fed mask.
