  1. Exactly the situation with my sisters current purchase.....in Wales.
  2. https://velfac.co.uk/domestic/technical/download-centre/10424/interface-drawings here is the link
  3. I seem to remember from when we were looking that Velfac had different requirements. I think their fitting guide is available to download from the website if not I might have it somewhere.
  4. we had Internorm windows and they went in before the render...also an MBC frame. I think Velfac may have their own particular requirements but its odd to render first and then try and get the windows in
  5. @Dreadnaught Ian checked on his way in this evening and reports that a glow can be seen coming from the glass domes. It is a dim glow but quite visible probably more so in our location where we have little to disturb the dark skies. Probably more muted in an urban environment with more lighting around.
  6. All mine are under the slab its not a problem. They were a bit out on position after the walls went up so slab had to be hacked out and they were moved a bit.....I would not recommend that so as was said measure and measure again. Our problem occured because architect plotted them as if they were floor standing pans not wall hung with cisterns in the stud......no one noticed on the drawing and so every one was wrong.
  7. Like others I am passivish but need UFH. We are on top of a ridge and exposed, lots of wind. Would not want to be without the UFH even with MVHR and heated towel rails.
  8. @Dreadnaught I cant say I have ever noticed any light showing from our 3 but will check tomorrow its a bit late to go out and look now.
  9. My sister is just in the process of buying a house with a 'fourth' bedroom in the roof. It has a proper staircase up to it and velux windows but the 'conversion' was done years ago and so no building regs. It is being sold as a 3 bed house and the roof room is just classed as storage (even though it is clearly currently being used as a bedroom). Her mortgage survey had no problem at all with this and it went through fine.
  10. My house is the same @TerryE uniform temp etc its like a big storage heater or thermos as you say. I have the zones because I wanted the ability to have some areas warmer if required. e.g I like a cooler bedroom and a warmer living area... I probably have my house warmer than most of you. I dont like being cold or wearing jumpers and socks in the house I grew up in a cold old house went to live in warmer climes as an adult now cant bear to live in a ‘cold’ house, like my living at 26ish and my bedroom at 22 ish..... like my bathroom hot too LOL My motivation for this type of build was not lower cost of heating and running house that is just a bonus I wanted clean air, no draughts and a very warm house..... we certainly were very warm in the summer with no shading on the windows 30 was cool, my stats were showing 35 most of the time, too hot even for me, Window film now on so hopes for next summer being better controlled temps.
  11. I have ufh thermostats in every room, each room is a separate zone and has a separate thermostat. Got the heatmiser system so can control from an app on phone or from wall stat. App works....most of the time. Our UFH takes a time to warm up, we have probes down in the slab so we are not reliant on air temp which is generally kept around 22 by mvhr. Find I need to set ufh at about 25 to get it on and keep it on for any length of time. My ufh manifolds are split into two - living wing is in plant room and bedroom wing is in my bedroom and even now it is inside a cupboard I am still aware of pump noise when its on. Wish I had put it in one of the other bedrooms so it could be noisy without disturbing me I am a very light sleeper.
  12. @Weebles I got all my internal doors - including the Eclisse - from doors on line. Alan and Ryan are are brilliant cant speak highly enough of them and their products and service. I had oak door sets, pocket doors, plain doors sprayed to my own colour, plus all the hardware....all excellent.
  13. Great to know there are some good companies about
  14. I have Eclisse I am told they are fiddly too but was recommended to have this brand as they are better than others and the last thing you want is it going wrong in situ. There was also something about access if needed afterwards without having to take the wall out but would have to trawl back to find that detail.
  15. Watched GD tonight for the first time in a couple of years.....been too busy building my own ....I didnt like any of tonights offerings!
  16. Is it like the one that goes out over the Grand Canyon......I couldnt cope with a glass floor I'm afraid, no head for even small heights.
  17. My very knowledgable carpenter also told me that the timber frame will shrink circa 25mm. I have absolute faith and trust in him, we had an MBC frame but he did every other bit of carpentry on the house. He has many years of experience of timber frame buildings.
  18. Wise decision.
  19. @joe90 have been wondering how it was going....didnt like to ask!
  20. I went through more than 6 months of this with my windows we had that many hosepipe/bucket demos I lost count. We used what felt like the entire stock of local builders merchants silocone, foam etc all to no avail in my case. I spent last Christmas day water testing.......in the end I covered the bottom of the frames in sticky back plastic to keep the water out of the house so we could get on. I hope you get yours sorted quicker.
  21. I have tiled 180sqm in 600x600 porcelain. used ditra matting, flex adhesive and grout as Nod. Have "invisible' expansion joints at doorways. Good prep is key again as Nod says.. I don't have a screed my ufh is in the slab and we tiled straight onto slab so it may be different for drying, my slab had been down for 6 months or so before we tiled.
  22. Have you got screws going through the sarnafil? Is that a reflection of inside scewed plate on the outside. Is there any drainage at the bottom of those frames if so you need to be careful not to seal up the drainage holes.
  23. If that as built has to stay in situ could you try sleepers to face it the greyish wood might look nice with the sandstone pavers and not clash like the yellow stone
  24. I agree with your wife that colour stone looks very wrong.
