  1. Wow that scared me! So many things to think about with cladding, glad we are building single storey! Thank you.
  2. Brilliant thanks. I am going to Warwick on Tuesday so will pop in.
  3. I have decided on Western Red Cedar. I like the Russwood Architect Select RW115 profile for a vertical clad and am interested in their Sioo coating. I saw some old threads about this and using it with larch but has anyone tried it with WRC. I have a few bits outside 'weathering' but as I only did them last week and I will need to clad around May this year I doubt I will get any sort of result on my samples before I need to order. I am only cladding the west and east elevations North and South will be rendered. Thanks in advance
  4. Thanks all think I am going with the quooker after much debate.
  5. Has anyone used these? I want a stone top really but can't get the length for the island without having a join which I don't want.....I want 4.2m in once piece ideally. Browsing the web I came across the recycled glass option but seems to be London only. Would like to explore these without having to travel to London. Thanks in advance
  6. I am looking at boiling water taps for the new kitchen as they seem to be the thing to have but we have awful water here and I always use water from a brita filter jug in my kettle. I am going to put in some sort of water softener to the house but am presuming that will by pass drinking water supply and so boiling water from tap. I will still need the filtered water otherwise the tea will taste awful. Any suggestions for a suitable tap ir should I save my money and stick with a kettle and brita filter jug. We are a 2 person household so not massive requirements for boiling water for drinks. Thanks in advance.
  7. Thank you! Think I may stick with the German after reading that. Some hard negotiation may be needed
  8. Ive been quoted £2189 inc vat ..thats with a 20% discount without asking. Thats for the Bora basic from Angel appliances based in Surrey. www.angelappliances.co.uk really helpful man Andrew will quote you on any appliance you are buying as well as Bora. He told me not to go for the Elica nowhere near as good as Bora.
  9. Induction every time! I had cooked on gas all my life then sold the house to build our new one had half a year on induction in a rented house, moved to another rental and am renting now in a house where I am back to cooking on gas......its a swanky 7 burner range cooker very good quality but give me back the induction any day. I never thought I would give up my gas and would have had gas in the new house without hesitation if I had not had that in between experience with induction. I got a very nice set of induction friendly prestige pans at tesco, very reasonable.
  10. yes a lovely front door, can't beleive how expensive front doors are but we liked it! We are having the triple glazed sliders and windows in studio frame all with laminated glass, we have a lot of glass and laminated worth the extra cost for safety and security benefit......we hope!
  11. Decsion made alu clad timber Internorm.Thank you for all your help.
  12. Thank you for the tip Jack! Noted.
  13. I am going to use a lighting designer. Had first (free) meeting, liked what they said. Cost is 1700 for the full scheme and we can buy fittings from them or not as we choose.
  14. I have seen a Bora basic now and its a great piece of kit, our local Siematic showroom has one installed. Its the one for me, going for the basic 4 zone not the bridged zones, thats not worth an extra 1k to me. I can cook on the 4 zone one well enough. Now I just have to decide on the kitchen to put it in and that is a whole other storey! Was looking at German kitchens but may have to scale back on budget. Burbage has been recommended as good English make. Anyone know them?
  15. thank you thats great. think I am going to go for bora recirculating, not sure I would need outside ducting with MVHR and besides it would be a huge pain to get that sorted from the island in the middle of the room. we are having the mbc passive slab with UF heat in at slab stage so no floor build up.
  16. Hi can you tell me what you think of the bora? I am looking at Bora and Elica recirculating hobs with extractors built i thanks
  17. I started off wanting a glass corner and bifolds...have been talked into sliders by every builder and architect on the planet. I'm afraid french doors won't do it for me and wouldnt look right in my build. Who could have thought windows could cost so much!
  18. Thanks, my order is 53sqm. After todays investigations I think I can get the alu/wood at better price than the alu/pvc from another dealer. Pays to shop around I would not have looked at an alternative dealer for the same branded product without the comments on this forum about different prices etc.....have looked ta Velfac, Rationel, Ideal Combi and one or two others. Mostly they couldnt do what I wanted in some way or another. Although the price is pretty much the same as I started out with if I can now get the nicer frame and alu timber not pvc for that money then thats what I will go with because it seems like not too bad for the better product. Once again I thank you all for you help. Its really been so useful.
  19. ALIG thanks for all the info. I dont have particular sound requirements beyond wind noise as it is on a windy ridge but is rural and no passing traffic. My quotes for alu/pvc triple (excluding external doors) are coming in a about ££390sq m excluding fitting and after discount. Seems a huge amount of money for pvc windows even triple glazed with alu clad. Thats for toughened glass not laminated. Thats on home pure too not studio. I am now getting another quote for the same in alu timber from a different IN supplier, see how that compares. You guys are all great with the advice thank you.
  20. Thank you all for your very helpful comments. You are a vertiable mine of information.....think it will be Inter Aluc/pvc....decision this week!
  21. Thanks all. Ecohaus Internorm have quoted us on Home Pure....his suggestion... I have not explored Studio range. Maybe its more expensive. We have a very contemporary single storey build in an exposed location on a ridge so want good windows and noise reduction from wind. Think I am going to have to drive to Nailsworth and try and see what all the options are and the price implications rather than just the one the salesman has chosen to quote us on. I feel very foolish for not exploring other Internorm options before now, as you can tell I am a novice when it comes to windows! I have not looked at Mitre corners on upvc.......you have me worried now! I am seeing a sample of the ideal combi timber/ali shortly but I really like the Internorm quality......pvc issue aside..... Rationel were near enough same price as Internorm and couldnt do exactly what we wanted. Velfac were cheaper but again couldnt do exactly what we wanted. Having analyzed Internorm and Ideal Combi quotes it seems the actual windows are cheaper from Internorm but the sliding doors (4 large ones) are double the price of the ideal combi .........the front and back doors are also double the price from Internorm but ideal combi cannot compete for style on the front door. My perfect front door is an Internorm design.........anyone had any builiding regs problems with these? Im reading front doors need spyholes and limiters neither of which it has! Thanks Liz
  22. Thank you. I know I want dark grey ali on the outside, I dont want white plastic on the inside and so far Internorm have only offered a grey coating on the plastic at an uplift of 10% on the white finish price. They have not offered me a timber ali window so I'm going to ask next week. I didnt even realise a timber ali window was an option until I found ideal combi - their price looks good but the product doesnt seem quite so good and there seems to be limitation on sizes etc. What do people think of upvc ali (if I go for the grey coating!) against timber ali Which is the better window. Its a huge expensse and I want to make the right choice. Window companies are pressuring ref lead times and I am floundering. Need help in the decision making process. thank you
  23. I have tried them and they came to within a sniff of Internorm, I was surprised as everthing I have read said they were good value. Maybe its just the local agent. They quoted 3g alu/timber against Internorm 3g alu/pvc. Would you consider alu/timber a superior product to alu/pvc? many thanks Liz
  24. Can someone advise me please. We are having an mbc timber frame. Internorm have quoted for alu/pvc (I didnt specify they suggested not sure why). I don't like the idea of white plastic windows internally, they have quoted an extra 10% to colour them grey as the outside. I know I must seem a bit silly but I didnt realise that you could get natural timber insides. I will ring Internorm on Monday but can anyone tell me what benefit there is in having alu/pvc over alu/timber? Is it cost....is pvc cheaper or something? Price is eyewatering as it is. many thanks in antcipation.
