  1. Will the length also be OK? It's shown as 5.1m long. I think if you put something like a 4.5m long Focus in there you won't be able to open the door between house and garage? If you want an up and over door you might find that eats into the length and rules out a high backed car like a small van or estate car?
  2. Scaling I make the car 1.7m wide which is the width of a modern mini. Do you need a wider door? Wider garage? I thought our garage was going to be big enough but then I did a test and discovered we wouldn't be able to get out of the car. It was only one of the original smaller Focus so we ended up making it 1m wider. Park somewhere with the wall on the passenger side. Push a tape measure under the car until it hits the wall. Open drivers door far enough to get out.
  3. Can also get chrome tape.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chrome-20mm-Wide-Pin-Stripe-Styling-chrome-foil-tape-10mts-long-NEW-/111551791860?epid=1588635695&hash=item19f90142f4:g:7E4AAOxyhSBR97HD
  4. Is it me or is that wording slightly strange? It doesn't explicitly remove PDR. For example to meet the condition do you need planning permission or just written permission to do work under PDR? This link points out that the condition must be justified in writing on the approval.. http://planninglawblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/can-conditions-preclude-permitted.html
  5. So you currently have plastic pipe coming out of the tiled walls? Can you mount this sort of thing on plastic pipe..
  6. Might be worth trying a local auction house for a second hand Henry. I've been to the auction house in Bedford a few times and each time the seem to have several - perhaps a Bedford has a lot of cleaning companies go bust or something?
  7. Installation sheet for Fireguard LED downlight. See page 2.. http://www.jcc.co.uk/content/uploads/2016/07/JC94472-L-IS-Page-1.pdf
  8. Looks good. Very similar to ours. We built in 2007 and used Osmo. No dogs but we have two kids and don't take any particular precautions. The very edges of the steps are only just showing some wear which might need redoing say next year but overall it's fine.

    Corridors and passages

My brother lived in a Victorian terrace house that was quite narrow. Over the years the wall that separated living room from hall had been up and down about three times. With it up the hall was too narrow. With it open plan the front door opens into the living room which just feels odd and lets heat out. It's well worth thinking outside the box when it comes to the flow through a building. Our architect proposed a layout for our self build that means you walk through the dining room to get to the living room and kitchen. The dining room also has the stairs and a double height window. Works well.
  10. Yes that's the eaves tiles. I used same at the ridge.
  11. You're right. I didn't notice they were three storey houses.
  12. If you have any eaves tiles (which are shorter)... https://www.marleyeternit.co.uk/~/media/Files/CAD-files/Roofing/Plain-Tiles/Clay-Plain-Tile/360CPT35Pdf.PDF or https://www.marleyeternit.co.uk/~/media/Files/CAD-files/Roofing/Plain-Tiles/Clay-Plain-Tile/353CPT35Pdf.PDF It's well worth doing a mock up using a short length of fascia board, battens and gutter etc to work out exactly where everything needs to be. Fascia too low and the bottom tile droops at the wrong angle. Too high and any water running down the membrane can pool at the bottom. At least that's what I found could happen. It's also worth checking how the tile overhangs into the gutter as very easy to end up with water overshooting the gutter. PS Eaves tiles maintain the "double layer" waterproofing. eg water going through the gap between the bottom row is diverted to the outside rather than relying on the membrane. Drawing showing only one tile at the bottom only apply to interlocking tiles.
  13. You can get a rough idea of the dimensions from the internal room dimensions but I agree there should be outside dimensions and height stated. On the drainage consultation there is a note saying that the "applicant needs to confirm the proposals for the surface water drainage". Not sure if this is a sign the planners are on top of the issue or if it will just cause the water co to think it hasn't been decided yet. In some areas discharge to a sewer is allowed. It says there will be two parking spaces per 2 bed house which seems reasonable to me. How many does local policy say there should be?
  14. Who cares if electric cars are green or not. Soon they will have plenty of range, be cheaper to build and run and may even have better performance. When people see this happening I think there could be an explosion in demand. Anyone know what the waiting list is for a Tesla model 3? 18 months? I think some car companies have been slow to wake up to the realisation that electric cars have to potential to be a "disruptive technology". The only thing I can see that might put a spanner in the works is the charging infrastructure. I can see queues at motorway charging stations for example. I can also see some people being told sorry you can't have an electric car because there are too many in your village already and the local grid can't cope.
  15. If you have your receipts in date order it's mostly a typing exercise. Know anyone that can use excel? The main concern for me was what happens if the claim gets lost? It's hard to get insurance to cover it.
  16. Our builder recommended them. We have ogee profile architrave and skirting and it did look better with the little blocks. Ours aren't quite plain rectangular blocks, the builder had our carpenter plane a bevel on them. No fancy detail. I can try and post a photo later when I get home.

  18. I'd put a socket in. Handy for the hoover.
  19. Yes it's the "new" black smart box. She only really got it for iPlayer which her TV doesn't support.
  20. Recently set up NowTV at my mothers place. She had a problem with the Freeview menu disappearing needing a software update to get it back.
  21. Avoid it if at all possible. Nothing can overhang the boundary and you can't create a statutory nuisance (noise, excess steam, smells etc). The neighbour would also be within his rights to build right up to the boundary probably blocking the vent. Installing the vent might also be an issue - you have some rights to access his land for maintenance purposes but not for new work which this would be.
  22. Have Geberit fixed the problem with the joint between the cistern and flush pipe? Ours started leaking and this is what I found. It was a poor design in my opinion. My video..
  23. Someone told me they have the nerve to charge you for calls made over your broadband connection. Is that right?

We opted for a beam & block first floor and "just" had to use denser blocks for the walls. You may have to use quite a bit more steel if there is a lot of glass.
  25. Checked our Neff but it looks like it's 593mm wide to fit a 600mm ID opening.
