OMG I just got the "like your husband" comment!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaa.... omg !!! Not blushed in years!!!3 points

I am just utterly gobsmacked (for want of a better phrase) for all you are doing for me. The reaction was purely to that message. @Ferdinand's "Master of all Trades" is starting tomorrow to get my existing house ready for marketing. @PeterW & crew and @Nickfromwales and crew are sorting out my internal works - to what extent I am not yet sure as there seems to be more and more. Never has a disaster (for me) been turned into a positive experience in my life before. DIY SOS has nothing on this. There is no free advertising, no tv fame, and (thank god) no Nick Knowles. These are just people who I have got to know on buildhub over a brief period of time who have surpassed any expectations of the help I hoped for when I joined this forum. I am forever in the debt of all you. And to those who have reached out on an emotional level. Initially, practical help was the last thing on my mind. I was utterly, devastated, sick to the stomach, scared and in full panic mode. Family and friends didn't really understand and were, in general, sympathetic in a condescending way, leading to me feeling even more stupid and pathetic. Only on here were there people who know what it is like to be in this situation - or similar. I'm not sure where I'd be if it wasn't for this forum but I wouldn't be where I am now. Aware that I won't have quite the house I was planning or anything like the pension pot I was counting on. BUT I will have a house that meets my needs and I won't be bankrupt. Thank you Buildhub - You are all amazing3 points

Just use the TS £1 stuff. It’s to hold it in place while you screw it on, the tanking and the tiles do the rest. TBH if you’ve got water back to the joint it’s fecked anyway so you could use Marmite and it would be as much use ....2 points

As a lecturer I was taught to push boundaries and break pre-conceived idea and taboos. I am just reading a book about the Dutch. Nice paragraph explaining about a Gay Pride barge going past with men dressed in pink PVC chaps and spanking each other. But then getting stopped for crossing a road while the pedestrian light was still red. Funny bunch the Dutch. We liked living there.2 points

Can't, I have had too many posts removed already for very mild infringements on the basis that women are on this site too. Though you and Hecateh seem to like the laddish behaviour I worked for a national charity and during a review I was told that I was not much of a team player. I asked if that was a bad thing. Then I pointed out that I was the only one ever to get a project finished on time, and within budget even though they had let me down by not supplying me with the two workers they said they would get.2 points

Tell them to Fack off. They've been less than excellent, but if they wanted to build or extend they'd be the kind of folk who would expect you to put up and shut up. Crank up the drum & bass ( google it lol ) and leave your lights on all night whilst shouting loudly every 15 mins "Damn its too bright in here!"2 points

We have three kitchen designs on the go we went back to Nolte, one of the three German kitchens suppliers They were up to 21k similar to the others My wife told them that the end panels didn’t match the shadow line on the units and would like the onset plinth to run around the sides unlike the pictures attached Extra £600 x 3 I’d heard enough She also wanted more drawers1 point

@Russell griffithswhatever solution you go with, and whatever it costs, it'll be worth it for that view. Stunning location ?1 point

Ive never used it tbh, just PB and tanking for me. Try the tanking to see how it adheres and go from there. Id not use PVA if you can help it, thinking about it, and would recommend flexible tile primer like Ultra Edit, mix that 4 parts water and lamp it on.1 point

Seems a pity to cover the lettering up really! Goop of choice would be Sika EBT but it's bloody expensive even on the Bay. Was looking at the £1 a tube stuff in T'station the other day. https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p51064 Reading the small print though and you need to prime with PVA etc. How out of date can Sikaflex be? https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sika-Sikaflex-EBT-WHITE-Box-of-12-x-300ml-Tubes-Complete-Box/162941783342?1 point

The reason for the concrete topping is I like a solid feel to things, whole house will be tiled so not really interested in timber, ive just spent a couple of hours with a laser level and tape and I think by decreasing the gap under the floor to 150mm, using a 150mm beams and going for a better insulation so I can decrease the thickness, I think I can keep from having to dig down anymore so this weeks panic over thanks for all the input. ?1 point

Ebay is good for bags, 20 packs are cheap enough. Get the cloth ones ( white ) not the paper ones.1 point

Only if it’s the pre - EU standard one that had the 1800w motor .. new ones with the 1000w motors are rubbish ..! Inside every one is a Numatic motor - these come up on eBay much cheaper than Henry’s (grey industrial ones) yet are identical inside.1 point

Never EVER speak ill of the Henry. Guys a legend and would suck a golf ball through a hosepipe. The amount of shit that gone in mine is ridiculous, but it refuses to die, and the suction is as it was the day I took him in. Buy one asap, used with warranty is good off eBay. Dont buy used without a warranty.1 point

Certainly not knocking the DIY SOS - I love what they do. I used to love Nick Knowles but I think fame has gone to his head, ? AND I know that most of the workers don't get any recognition and don't even want it. It's just that, to me, at this moment, this is even better1 point

Bacon heals all wounds After doing the Swansea DIY SOS about 2 years or so ago, I can vouch for that lot. Outstanding folk who wouldn't accept any gratitude, instead Mr Knowles told me that they did next to nothing other than put flyers in the merchants / media etc and we all just turned up and did all the work. And there were plenty of bacon rolls. Lol. You broke many, many boundaries. Like Roy Chubby Brown and Bernard Manning had a baby1 point

Now that's an interesting proposition. Would you be allowed EPS / XPS without a topping from a fire point of view? Another issue could be the camber in the beams which a screed/topping lets you grade out.1 point
-
Just remember the insulation has to hold up the concrete while it's wet (and possibly people laying the mesh and UFH).Some plastic sheeting should be used between insulation and screed.1 point

Hi Russel Not to put a dampener on things we saw this system at the NEC and loved it BUT a few weeks later I went doing some framing on a wimpy job noticed that this system was being used Two ground workers were putting the floors into four detached houses Superfast to lay But they told me that there was problems in the six occupied houses Lots of cracking on the screeds and movement around skirtings Fortunately none where tiled But carpets were taken up and self levelling was put down They had used a 75 sc screed The floors were very springy before the screed If I had of used this system I would have gone for 50 mil pumped concrete to be safe1 point

We (she) wanted something sleeker than that. We do have a separate hand-held sprayhead, but there's nothing to mount it to the wall at head height. Comes in handy when cleaning though!1 point

Welcome on board! As a dreamer, I was in your position a few months ago. Now I have an offer accepted on a plot.1 point

Anyone with a street works permit can do the trenching, but I found all the independent contractors were more expensive than the utilities. Depending on the road, even though they re only digging in the verge they may need traffic management as well. Before you go any further, where is your water and telecoms connections going to be? If they need the road or verge up, then don't be digging it up twice. In my case all 3 came from the other side of the road, so I had the road up only once, and Scottish Water were the cheapest of them all to make the road crossing.1 point

Talk to them and see what they CAN supply from that pole. What KVA rating did you ask for? It's tempting to ask for 21KVA (100A) but you almost certainly do not need that. We were in a similar situation, adding an extra house to an existing 100KVA transformer. I just knew if I asked for 21KVA there would be a big cost for upgrading the transformer. So I sked for 12KVA and that could be accommodated from the existing transformer. Firstly 12KVA will be plenty for our house anyway, but the reality is we have the same cable and same 100A fuse as we would have if we had asked for 21KVA So go back and ask what capacity they could supply from the existing pole, and see if you can live with that.1 point

Anyway @daiking your list is wrong. It goes like this. 1. Take a group of amazingly helpful and altruistic people on this forum who invest lots of time and effort advising people for no gain. 2. After lots of advice both on and off forum determine that the issues can’t be fixed through keyboard advice 3. 2 of those amazing people (plus a son) offer to travel an incredible distance to help address the issues. 4. After very long days things finally work for the first time ever. 5. Ensure that some fun and banter (and beer) is part of the experience. DIY SOS Buildhub style. I’ve said it a lot but I’ll say it again. This forum is amazing!1 point
