Why might my hot water tank not be working?
Marvin replied to jamieled's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
Have the fuses to the immersion heaters tripped? What type of fuses are they? MCB, RCBO? How long ago was the immersion installed? -
Err.. well, compressed?

Used EDPM on several flat roofs. Like the fact that it comes in one piece for the whole roof (assuming the shape isn't too complicated). Installed about 10 so far including on our last 2 houses.

And 60 megawatts at that!

Hi @SteamyTea Not so far fetched then.... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-05-18/china-eyes-compressed-air-as-battery-competitor-in-energy-storage

All good thoughts. Re the system in my first post on this topic: The energy storage and swift response sides look good from a commercial point of view for energy producers which ticks a lot of boxes from a business point of view. If the trials work as planned I think it's the best so far. Remember you can change how the excess energy is produced and just use the storage and response side of the system. This may negate the requirement for larger power stations that work at less than full power most of the time and have time delayed gearing up and shutting down requirements, meaning smaller power stations costing less to build and to run. Also, I assume it could be used with a geothermal system. But as @SteamyTea implies and my brother says time will tell.

One for @SteamyTea This technology breaks so many challanges that it's hard to see a downside. Eventually one of these breakthroughs will be used...

It will still die in the summer.

Are you going to grow any man get out? -
Hi @SteamyTea Either from MDi in France, or Luxembourg or Australia, or on their YouTube videos, can't remember, but it is something I will be asking them to clarify.
-
I understand it uses about 100m3? at 300psi?
-
Yes, most of this is on my list of questions.... also noise issues,kW output/input rates and cost! I read they were suggesting the thing should last about 50 years I await a response from France.

Yes, 1m3 of plasterboard is about 658kg

Hi @Nickfromwales Yes looking at storing excess PV energy in a small capacity for use over night.
-
Having had no response about the Ridgeblade product, I am now looking towards the MDi Airwall as a form of power storage. This uses excess energy to compress air and use the compressed air to produce electricity. The basic unit indicates a 7kwh storage capacity.

Hi @Conor Definetly need somewhere for it to drain. Our one, we have no vibration problem. IMO weight is an issue if you are expecting the unit is to stand on the rubber feet. To much like stilettos! You need a UDL Uniform Distributed Load over the ground below, that's why they recommend a concrete slab. The CE-iVT9 is 80kg. I would go for compacting the ground, placing blocks flat on top with ties or some form of binding around the perimeter to stop them spreading and an OSB on top with DPM and moniter the movement. I was advised to tilt the unit so the fan side was slightly higher than the back for drainage so I would tilt the blocks and board. Ours really does not vibrate significantly. We have the feet on EDPM, and it has not moved in the last 10 months or through the 120mph storm that hit the island although being on the flat roof totally exposed. Good luck M

Identify all the services to be used in your home. Consider heating and cooling requirements. Consider AIM: (Airtightness, Insulation and Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery), and if your going to go APE: (ASHP, Photovoltaics and Electric Vehicle charging). Do a thermal loss and gain calculation based on the shape, size and thermal resistance of the building. Consider solar gain in your design. A well insulated building can easily overheat if this is not taken into consideration. Our renovated bungalow can overheat if the outside temperature rises over 10C. Peak energy requirement at calculated temperature extremes indicates that we will need as much cooling on hot days 30sC as heating on cold days -8C. Good luck. M

A long time ago, as best as I remember, the foreman's comments went: "Well, when we finish this job we will go down to the hospital and carry on where we left off until we're made a better offer alright? Then it's off to that job. The hospital pays less but it means that we don't have to sack you and replace you when the next job starts. Then the phrase was about bread n butter, and jam. The former the basic jobs that kept you going and the latter the ones that pay better money, and then about pulling my finger out and getting on with it.

Along with the late, great, Bob Monkhouse. -
We can see the gardener's amongst us. Box has small shallow weak roots. My guess would be fork and spade work.

Another 'Cool Energy' heatpumps thread
Marvin replied to HughF's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
My heating pump is on a programmable thermostat. The ASHP heats the buffer to the set temperature. -
Hi Does a garage ceiling below a habitable space require a vapour barrier? Fire requirements all known. Thanks M
