A reminder of the risks of diggers…
dpmiller replied to Dreadnaught's topic in Project & Site Management
On todays sites they're pretty hot on belts- the second (green) beacon on top indicates belt on AFAIK. I'm guessing that the digger in question didn't have a full cab or the door was latched open? -
Expanding Foam Can - cleaning?
dpmiller replied to mike2016's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I'll only buy Soudal in the fancy Genius can now, can sit for weeks and be reused immediately. -
why not get a cheapie wireless and stick the receiver downstairs at the bottom end of the wires?

Windows....which company did you choose and why?
dpmiller replied to Tom's Barn's topic in Windows & Glazing
Nope, we'd no desire for anything other than 2g UPVC. Nothing about the look of fancier stuff did anything for us, I certainly didn't want any timber that might need maintenance, and even thermally I couldn't justify the extra cost within our tight-ish budget. -
Recommended doesn't mean you can't , they just don't want stagnant pockets of water in the jacket. If you've plenty of flow on the pump, there's no problem with same-side circulation

why was a garage/boiler house unit put in the house anyway? A white cased one would only have been a few quid extra at the time...

Might want to visit your local catering equipment firm if you want really big, and likewise if you want a good chunky prewash tap rather than the domestic type with a piddly spray. https://www.bes.co.uk/plumbing-supplies/kitchens-catering/pre-rinse-system/

get a velux and just don't open it?

Stick your info into LoopCAD and see what it comes up with. 100m is a sensible max for each loop but the more similar you can get the loops the better IMO.

The Miele in Peter's photo has the inlet solenoid valve in the grey bit, and orientation doesn't matter IME. Other brands can use an excess-flow "waterstop" which may be a bit more sensitive.

Graf waste water treatment plant, any thoughts?
dpmiller replied to joe90's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I went with the Solido Smart and It's supremely quiet, a pumped option for it would've been a couple of hundred quid at the time if we'd needed it. Internal pump... -

Sub-distribution boxes?
dpmiller replied to tanneja's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
BPC are very good IME, why not give them a chance to offer a full design by informing them of your "incompatabilities"? -
All our windows, the french doors and the back door are all UPVC grey outside/ white inside. The front door however is black composite in a white UPVC frame, as the porch area will be stone clad and I wanted a bit of contrast to break these features up, vs. the grey beside white render elsewhere.

Cylinder stat, two immersion heaters and iBoost
dpmiller replied to BMcN's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
The iboost monitors both outputs- it heats on no1 until that heater's stat is satisfied (or any series switch or relay you may have switches open) then it heats no2, but "tries" No1 every 15mins (IIRC) to see if it's requesting heat again. I've set mine -a thermal store- to master on the upper to heat to DHW levels quickly, but then the switch over to the bottom element to fill the rest of the tank.
