Could these be asbestos roof tiles?
markc replied to NoodleDoodle's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Possibly asbestos cement which is a much lower risk than fibrous asbestos. You can get samples tested to be sure. -
planning permission- potential issue - help
markc replied to GAC93's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
You may struggle with a two story extension but their window shouldn’t really be there so we’ll worth applying for planning anyway. -
Where is the kWh price heading in 2022?
markc replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
😮 how dare you imply building a few more turbines won’t solve the energy crisis, cure the sick, home the homeless, save the penguins and make the roses smell nicer. -
How do you lift the engine crane up? 😉
-
Genie hoist or similar to get onto the roof then roll them into place. if you have a local tree surgeon who has a spider cherry picker (with hoist attachment wink wink) get them to lift them into place

How close when face to face buildings?
markc replied to Post and beam's topic in Building Regulations
Happens often, you can only minimise the potential impact by careful design, orientation and position of your build on your plot. Don’t put big windows etc. Looking towards what could be a close development. -
Could be gap for door itself or he may mean the frame to allow wood or tiles to slot underneath. I have just done some frames with 15mm underneath and wish I had left more … it was a pig of a job slotting the 8mm click fit planks under with 5mm underlay. 20mm under a door for underlay and carpet sounds pretty good

Window drain / cill detail in tilt and turn units
markc replied to MrMagic's topic in Windows & Glazing
Anything that opens and closes is likely to need a drain of some sort -
Cool spot, a bit of smoke won’t hurt the tree unless you are burning creosote etc.

And all the “beautiful country setting detached homes” being thrown up on chicken hut estates around here. Detached and a slim person cannot squeeze between the 🤪 plus narrow roads and parking spaces that only smart cars fit into. Guy I know has a mini and that hangs over the pavement with bumper touching his down pipe -
Bugger! Yes it’s a pain to remove. Even pointing will be tedious because bitumen will clog the grinder or cutter used for raking out the old mortar.
-
Now that looks like it has set hard, if you pick at it does it flake off? if so then sand blasting or a needle gun or wire brush on a grinder will remove it.
-
Welcome. Bitumen paint is a real pain to remove, even sand blasting takes time because bitumen is pliable and most of the sand bounces off. Hard iron shot will quickly remove it but that really needs to be done in a tented area, not in the open

Omg! This is ridiculous! Get another SE quick
-
Looks like he is speccing a channel which would be RSC never seen VC. Channel would make sense but a 254 is a biiiig channel. 16mm end plates? Are you building a nuclear bunker? I would be getting a new SE and probably save you a fortune in steel fab and erection costs
-
Assuming all reinforcing is clamped or welded then it can be used to enhance earthing and would simply need a cable and earth spike, but as you are unlikely to have a fully clamped or welded cage then it’s pretty pointless.

Hmmm, wonder if trichloroethylene will work? Might have to try it.
-
As it’s there I would keep it.

It’s cutting oil, mix it roughly 1 part oil to 20-30 of water. WD is good but a squirt from a spray bottle or washing up liquid bottle every few seconds keeks the bits cool .. more important on the bigger diameter cutters.
-
I would ‘mole’ under the road if it’s public and only single track (single track causes a lot of hassle to get a permit to dig/close). you dig the two holes either side of road and all the trenches and save yourself a fortune.
-
Rotabroach (or other generic annular cutter) is also great for adding another ‘half’ hole to existing for misaligned holes. use plenty of water (preferably with soluble oil) to keep the cutters cool and they last for ages before needing a regrind
-
Did they detail what the MSC is? …. Marine Stewardship Council maybe, Midlothian Stolen Cycles? I wouldn’t bank on it being worth the money it costs
-
if you are going deeper than their footings and there is a chance of excavation collapse etc then yes you do need an agreement, but this doesn’t have to be anything fancy or expensive. you details the works to be done, show what measures you are putting in place to prevent damage to their property and what you will do if something does happen that affects them.
-
Hi and welcome. Do you really need a party wall agreement? As you are not fixing to, altering or undermining their property there should be no problem or reason. sounds like you have tried to be considerate and respect their privacy etc. I would just crack on with it now

And I just assumed trusses, but maybe not. Everyday is a school day
