  1. I have aluminium outlet and intake vents for the MVHR with aluminium insect screens behind. They have been fitted for a couple of years or so and today while I was cleaning the crud off the intake vent insect screen I noticed the the aluminium had started to corrode. I could replace the aluminium insect screen or try brass or stainless steel. I originally used aluminium because I thought it would negate any possible galvanic action between the vent cover and the insect screen but if it's corroding anyway would brass or stainless steel be better?
  2. The AAV should be above the highest drain point such as basin plug hole.
  3. I can second that. Without video evidence it would have been very difficult for me to get the foundations relaid after a complete cockup. It's all in my blog.
  4. That is correct. I have the main, 110mm, AAV in the bathroom behind a false wall which houses the concealed cistern. I also have an external vent around 600mm high in a flower bed near the sewage treatment plant. The BCO didn't have any problems with the setup.
  5. I had wondered, but Clive's patience is amazing.
  6. Welcome to the forum Ed. It was similar for us as we needed 350mm Steico timber I-beams but found it was cheaper to have 300mm with a 47x47mm batten nailed to the flange. The 300mm beams were available off the shelf as well. It also made it easy to fit a 47mm ledger plate for hanging the metal web joists.
  7. When we had to decide on grout colours, we've only got two different types of floor tiles, we ordered sample strips of grout in all the likely colours and just put them next to the tiles. I'm sure it didn't take more than a few minutes for Wendy to decide
  8. I used BAL Micromax2 grout in the wetroom and the colour was smoke which looks very similar to your silver grey.
  9. The last time I measured ours it was 320mg/l and zero after the softener.
  10. I thought of doing the same thing when I bought my first house and bought a copy of Conveyancing Fraud by Michael Joseph but after reading it I chickened out.
  11. We looked at these before deciding on lift and slide.
  12. Hi and welcome to the forum. Good luck with your build.
  13. We've been putting ours on Freegle and people have been taking them for cold frames.
  14. Most people seem to think our windows are aluminium anyway. The windows and sills have the same looking finish and it all goes together well.
  15. We had ours fabricated in 1.5mm aluminium and powder coated by Trueline Products in Kidderminster.
  16. That's good to hear. Since we moved in we have had our hot water tank set at 45C. It reduces standing losses and the EASHP seems to heat the water very efficiently to that temperature. There is ample hot water for the two of us.
  17. TBH I never checked because at the time I had more pressing things to worry about. We bought the warranty because we thought it was worth the relatively small outlay at the time but probably wouldn't bother now.
  18. Ours runs from 1/1/14 to 31/12/23. It started from when they said they considered the build was weathertight because the build time was longer than average. It was actually weathertight at the end of 2010.
  19. On the first floor of my house I have a 110mm stack directly connected to two toilets and it is also connected to two 50mm wastes one from a shower and basin and the other from a bath and basin. There Is a Floplast AF110 on the main stack and an AV50 on the end of each of the 50mm pipes. I also have a downstairs toilet and basin on a separate 110mm waste with an AV50. All the the AAVs appear to work normally without any slowing running.
  20. We have also bought Elfa from "aplaceforeverything" with no problems. We first bought some back in 1998 from Homebase and it's still a good as new.
  21. Don't be put off from doing the design and planning yourself. We had no experience of building when we started but we have managed to design and build a PH. It comes down to a lot of thought and reading before starting. Good luck.
  22. It's been eight weeks now since we got our acknowledgement, hopefully the refund will be soon.
  23. I don't hold out much hope for my old water softener then
  24. We must be very lucky around here. We have taken all the waste from the build and demolition to the local tips with the exception of one grab lorry of mixed soil and rubble and the asbestos wall boards and roof tiles. We have also used Freegle and Freecycle to get rid of a lot of stuff.
  25. Really! On a 10m frontage that would be near enough 350mm out, I'm sure I could spot that.
