would need to be built with dressed red pine as opposed to regularised, good bit more expensive for materials, though no pb and skimming. but yes a good joiner and it will cost more for the quality of work req.
-
exactly, kiln dried timber won''t move to that extent. soleplate/headplate - thickness minimal movement, joist - width small amount of shrinkage, binders - width small amount. doesn't add up to 20mm.
-
seriously? why? been in the trade for too many years and it's the first i've heard it. afaia yellow pine is the only pine which has any measureable shrinkage in it's length

looking for blown cellulose and came across this. would it be an idea to have a section for published building data and product data to allow comparisons https://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/as/cebe/projects/stamford/pdfs/del2design.pdf

WARNING. ICF AND AIR BRICKS
Simplysimon replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
as an update, had an email from BC asking to call. first question was 'why do you have air bricks'? 'because it's mentioned in the details and we reckoned you wouldn't pass it without'! love BC with a vengeance. -
@Tin Soldier size of standards in relation to door is governed by the type of hinges being used. butt hinges require less clearance than ball race, different method of fitting as well
-
too modern for me, however, i really like these. i like the way they change shape as you look upwards

Latest concrete house on grand designs.
Simplysimon replied to MikeSharp01's topic in Property TV Programmes
the house looked warm and cosy, could see someone with a heavy cold tucked up with a hot drink feeling a fuzzy warmth emanating from their new home. woudn't it look glorious at christmas, big family gathering, lots of decorations........... -
could see Fred and Ginger coming down those!

Cheap but good looking vanity worktop
Simplysimon replied to Jude1234's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
we had a Corian worktop in the bathroom of our last motorhome, it got stained but we polished the stain out. i certainly like the idea of corian, though not the price, for kitchen worktop, no joints/dirt traps. -
and this weeks numpties, need a ceiling finish ventilated into the rafters, personally designed lighting, personally designed kitchens, (running out of money), ground concrete floors (though they did grind these themselves), 9m ceilings with echoes. oh, and don't forget a lot of what looked like 2g glazing, a cool area to sit next to in the winter. blockwork looks nice but too much concrete and steel for me, too industrial and not homely.

rising damp only rises 1.2m, anything above that and it's coming from above

Internal wall make up - what’s best?
Simplysimon replied to Weebles's topic in General Construction Issues
@Weebles, i am wondering why four separate studs rather than one long one and two butting up against. doubling up the p/board will also be more difficult due to the position of the studs at the junction as only one thickness of material. i appreciate it will stop some flanking sound transmittance but as they are still touching there will still be some. -
Stud Walls - and Floor Structure
Simplysimon replied to Big Neil's topic in General Construction Issues
generally the populace don't care. goods are disposable, if it looks nice that's all that matters. house builders are there to make a profit and return a dividend to their shareholders not to make life easy for third owner as stated previously. good practice is all well and good but cuts profit absolutely, but wait until BC sign the building off first! -
the ayr branch has already closed, there were some good bargains especially on the last few days. would be worth checking them out
