if you've only just fitted the joists, why can you not work from the top? the herringbone needs to be nailed from the upper surface for the top one. when you're marking the length of the strutting it really needs to be done close to the joist ends to avoid a difference in spacing due to the timber bowing.

The right tool for the job or just a right tool.

when making multiples of an item, or one which isn't square or is curved, a workshop rod is drawn, 'a story stick'. this may be one which shows sections to position joints or full sized if a shaped item for the placing on and marking of joint positions. -
quick search produced these https://www.broughtons.com/store/category/2/464/bakelite/ but if there's a problem getting the correct length between spindle and keyhole then a handle and escutcheon would do

Kwikstage scaffolding questions
Simplysimon replied to Vijay's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
ladder should be 1m above stepping off point and tied in. it's not the stepping off which is difficult with nothing to hold onto, it's the going back down. -
was it not possible to site the ashp closer to avoid long pipe runs?

have had quotes for cellulose, however, they are from a while ago and need updated. looked to see whether there were any other installers and came across BCA insulation. wrote an email to their contact address, it bounced back. phoned them this afternoon, 'a quote will be £75 but is refundable if we do the work'. i don't think so says i and hang up. business must be good!
-
yup not much better in spring, summer or autumn, 'and it's so much warmer in the house' than outside , blockwork and shuttered walls with double glazing, no sign of insulation ?

this episode looks like portpatrick? @JSHarris

we had corian in a motorhome around the wash basin. it came with a stain but was easily polished out.

up here tf has been the traditional method for years, i cannot see how b&b can be faster and cheaper than timber. the weather is less of a hinderance and the house wind and water tight faster, the insulation is in the inner leaf as opposed to on its face so more floor space and easier fixings for the householder in the future. if he's in the trade and doing it in his own time he may yet go on to uni and go into management. housing shortage is also due to firms building detached houses with a few semi-det. what is required are more terraces/four in a block, however, these won't sell well nor will they sell for a premium. the article recently about people having to live in shipping containers and how bad it is, contrast this with the grand design in NI where an architect was happy to use this method to build with and live in. if you wish to cut build costs and cut housing waiting lists, we need more container living, it does need to be insulated properly and well designed though.
