Ordinarily I am not in to “blame culture “ but this is different, this was people’s lives. Frankly I think building regulations departments have a great responsibility for not making sure materials were “fit for purpose “ and “documented” as such, manufacturers will try to sell anything they can, not right I know, but that’s business (for some). When you think of some of the hoops BI make us jump through fir our little builds or minor works it beggars belief that high rise multi people accommodation can be allowed to be so dangerous.

I wanted herringbone but could not find what I wanted. Was offered a reclaimed a school floor but it was too thick for UFH and cutting them all in half and scraping all the tar off was a job too far.
-
I have an engineered oak floor in the lounge over UFH, glued to the screed and that has not shrunk or moved at all. I did make sure the floor was completely dry and the oak sat in situ fir weeks before being fitted.

I have one room stat in the hallway set to 20’.

I think that is a tad warm, depends on your insulation and heat requirement but mine runs at 25’. Let’s see what others think!

Nice floor, what temp are you running the UFH?

Temporary heat source for UFH: Willis heaters
joe90 commented on oranjeboom's blog entry in Kentish RenoExtension
On a rainy morning with little to do I tried to find instructions fir fitting a Willis heater and all I could find was the diagram that @Jeremy Harris posted above. Also the Navitron forum talked about little information on the right way to fit them.- 159 comments

We had a mouse in our cavity (brick temporarily removed to pull cable into conservatory) we heard it scurrying round the house and eventually it chewed through expanding foam to end up in the loft where I caught it with a trap .

Apparently the blue toilet fluid can’t be emptied into a treatment plant but the pink stuff is ok! (Found this out when I bought a touring van this summer ).

Removing old fence post concrete

Best bet is to drill the old wood out with a long drill bit and shave the new post to fit the existing concrete -

Having a JCB is a great help for this!!!! I have had to resort to manual digging in the past which is hard work and depends a lot an how much concrete was used. If the hole was dug with a digger there may be loads of concrete around it. Hope someone can come up with a better solution fir you. -

Agreed, also, most things that have to be orientated correctly have “this way up (arrow)”. Has anyone seen the MI,S for these things (not that most people read the instructions ?).- 159 comments

Trimming the size of a scaffolding board.
joe90 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I don’t see why not!. I bought a load of scaffold boards fir my build (going to use them to build raised beds for veg after the build is finished) and cut various ones to length fir particular jobs (and didn’t put metal bands on the ends ?). -

Surely mounted on its side would lead to a bigger air pocket inside??? I notice that one above must be fitted to a vented system only?- 159 comments

Finally need to get my ass in gear and balance my MVHR (with @SteamyTea, s kind help) and so I need to ask to be put on the “borrow” list for this kit. Hoping to do it in the next month or so. I will PM my address to whoever needs to send it to me. Also need to ask if anyone has any tips on the best way to do this, no point in re inventing the wheel! ( @ProDave I have the same unit as you so you you may have some ideas I can scam!).

Not all builds requires an S.E. input, I did my own drawings (gcse tech drawing at school 50 years ago ?). I did get a tame architect to transfer them to CAD (I don’t do “tech”) and we only had to get one item signed off by an S.E. because a roof mod was required (in my opinion and my builders this was totally OTT). IMO architects CAN be a little like artists in that they design “their” wants. I suppose I was lucky in that we had a clear vision of what we wanted, if you do not, an architect could offer you “suggestions”, just make sure you end up with what YOU want, not them!

I was hoping you would say that ?, I just need to get my ass in gear, thanks mate.

yes mate, all sealed up, got some more caulking to do around windows and would not mind another air test, but not at £250 . Just the MVHR to balance, just need someone to help me ?

It really annoys me that bad dog owners get away with this kind of behaviour and I get tarred with the same brush (as a responsible dog owner).
