Temporary heat source for UFH: Willis heaters
joe90 commented on oranjeboom's blog entry in Kentish RenoExtension
I,m with @Jeremy Harris, the picture on the side (above)tho shows it mounted on its side with input pipe coming upwards but as JSH says it cannot be bled completely of air like that. Be interested to hear from someone that has fitted one and what it’s fitting instructions were.- 159 comments

I have had one of these for years and found it invaluable (I am also short). You have to be fairly agile to put it up and down but I used it as a self employed builder for all sorts of jobs. As mine comes in 600mm sections it can be used in all sorts of configurations. One 16’ tower, two 8’ towers, four 4’ towers. I also have extra long scaffold planks when they are used side by side. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-D-I-Y-Steel-Scaffold-Tower-Scaffolding-Tower-4x26x18wh/171973322260?epid=10026546682&hash=item280a68a614:g:wcoAAOxyxmJSPF7-

Making good the edges of a screeded floor
joe90 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Flooring
but you are catching up fast!!!! -
which is why I was careful to support my drain runs located under floors where access was not possible and a min diameter of 50mm. I have found that pipes that exit hot water (baths basins and showers) can sag quite a lot over time causing just such a problem.

Counter Top Basins : snog, marry, avoid?
joe90 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
only if the pipes exit the wall where you want the taps with wall mounted connections? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Basin-Bath-Taps-Wall-Mounted-Traditional-Cross-Head-Hot-Cold-Chrome-Belgrade/173284076051?hash=item2858892a13:m:mrlg5nlfUvG_t4v9NNsH4eQ or these that do have overflows. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Durovin-Wash-Basin-Bowl-Ceramic-Counter-Top-Oval-With-Overflow-580mm/191744777878?epid=9032571691&hash=item2ca4e11e96:g:KrUAAOSwWGJdrzDB -

If you had the foresight to bury the pipes in the wall! -
MVHR is Largely Bogus
joe90 replied to DavidHughes's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I would expect the heating bill to rise a little, all MVHR reduces the internal temp a little but less than opening windows and letting colder air in. I would imagine any (small) increase would be worth it fir the lack of damp/mould. interesting to hear the temps are more even as it’s widely said that MVHR is poor at moving temps/air within a house. Really glad you are pleased with the outcome ? -
Counter Top Basins : snog, marry, avoid?
joe90 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Yes I have installed these for customers but would not have one myself, trendy yes, but not fit fir purpose (IMO). no overflow is mad taps have to be pillar types from the cabinet below fixed with silicone/ct1 depends on the weight of the child (OAP!) and the adhesion of the “glue” nightmare to clean properly. -
Just make sure you record it ?

Can you not rod (with a hosepipe) from that chamber in your garden up the rest bend? If it’s solid you will feel the resistance and at least know where the blockage is. That blank behind the screw on cap should be removable with a screwdriver/thin lever as I have come a across those with a rubber o ring on them. Just make sure you have wellies etc on when “it” gives way ?

Drainage requirement for gable wall
joe90 replied to gravelld's topic in Rainwater, Guttering & SuDS
Is the water going under the track? Does the track have a drain hole? Ours does, and I piped it to a French drain. I like @Russell griffiths pic above, neat solution. -
Why don’t you try “rodding” it with a length of hosepipe, I have found this good, and if you connect the hose to a tap you can blow the blockage apart when you reach it.

That’s very interesting, about what I paid for my Ebay special but. ” enthalpic heat exchanger core there is very little risk of condensation needing to be drained.” I thought enthalpic meant NO condensate?

totally agree, my other half could not visualise what a drawing showed in any respect, walking around and talking about it was the only way. -
Curved corrugated roof ventilation and purlins
joe90 replied to cwr's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
no, I bought metal roofing for my garage workshop and asked about the fleece covered stuff to avoid condensation on my tools etc and was told by the supplier it’s only any good in any well ventilated areas, cow sheds etc. You need the ventilation to dry the fleece, if not it keeps saturating then drips. My roof was not curved but I simply used under felt to catch drips and route them to the gutter, works very well. I reckon @scottishjohn is right for your situation, spray foam. -
MVHR is Largely Bogus
joe90 replied to DavidHughes's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
surely if you don’t have MVHR you will need trickle vents in your windows? -
I was referring to Jeremy’s comment about his i3 and one pedalndriving, there is no picture of this .

My only regret is not double boarding the ceilings or/and using sound resilient bars. Even with sound insulation between I joists sound travels more than I would like between floors.
-
I used 22mm on i joists at 400mm centres with glue only (I did screw the first row simply so I could push the rest against them). Very firm floor indeed.
