MVHR + ASHP Post Heater control
joe90 replied to john0wingnut's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
That’s a good idea, we have no heating in the bedrooms (towel rads in bathrooms only) and they can be a tad chilly in very cold weather. I could create another manifold for just the bedrooms only with one of these and time it fir early and late daytime (in and out of bed) ? I was pondering a wet post heater using pipework that heats the DHW cylinder as it’s just underneath the MVHR unit in the loft but not worked out how to control it yet ?. -
2020 ends on a high note (surprisingly)
joe90 replied to ProDave's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I remember our Jeremy saying “ it’s 90% finished, just 90% to go!”, I too am bored, way to wet outside to do gardening/landscaping which is all that’s left to do really. -
Kingspan aeromax plus - flashing code 14?
joe90 replied to RossG21's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Mine has been running for a bit and I whipped the cover off, that black cover you mentioned is slightly warm only. Mine also makes less noise than yours judging from your last video. -

Part 0 - The start of the middle or the end of the beginning?
joe90 commented on SuperJohnG's blog entry in Scottish SIPS build
Well done John, if you enjoy your build half as much as I did you will love it, yes problems will arise but try to treat them as challenges, looking forward to your pictures and questions ?- 11 comments

Getting a WC and bath waste into the same branch pipe
joe90 replied to lineweight's topic in Waste & Sewerage
@lineweight I think a drawing of your situation will help, I don’t believe there is one solution, just depends on what and where. -
I agree with @PeterStarck, but things like insulation etc is not taxing. It also depends on your time, I was retired during my build so could spend everyday on site, if your working as well it’s a different ball game . I find offering to help, clearing up or shifting stuff will give you a better relationship with the trades and help the build.

As above, looks like where the old flat roof joined the house, leave well alone. “If it ain’t broke , don’t fix it!”

Looking good, now you have done the easy ones crack on with all the cut ones ?

is it a necessity? I buy locally sourced stuff, perhaps Brexit may make us all think about more local shopping!

Our plumbing saga.... Advice please.
joe90 replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in General Plumbing
If it were me I would turn blue tap off again (90’), undo white nut (some water will escape so towel underneath), check filter is clean (little blue thing in your first photo from machine instructions). There is a rubber washer (may be part of the filter) make sure this has no damage to it. I like to put just a smear of Vaseline or cooking oil (very little) onto both sides of that rubber washer and tighten by hand (hard). Turn it back on and see if any leaks appear . Let us know. -

it’s already off ? But yes, confirm water is available to the machine. -
That does not sound like you? No, everyone will be doing that (not). Perhaps exotic fruit or certain “foreign” produce may be a little scarce . Any items sent in containers are not being stopped, it’s only lorries with drivers (and many of them are drivers trying to get home to the EU fir Christmas. )

But they did ?, anyway we are still in transition so trade agreements still stand surely?

Ha, picture no 2.( Close up) shows the isolation tap Is off,(little blue tap) that would give you that error ? -

You have said that he won’t come back to rectify problems (which by law I believe he must be given the chance to do) so crack on and get a PROPER plumber to appraise his work and quote to rectify it. Do not pay his bill till this is resolved. Have you taken that little filter out and checked it’s not blocked? New plumbing (if not rinsed properly) can be full of bits so I would suggest you check the filter is clean. -

Don’t pay his bill till it’s sorted, and if he won’t sort it tell him you will get someone else and deduct their bill from his AFTER it’s all working correctly, that quooker valve thingy balancing on a random copper pipe is a bodge and I would not accept that as “fit for purpose”. The rest is not the neatest installation and that waterless trap for the washing machine/dishwasher seems odd to me. I did say before I question his ability!!! -
I don’t know but don’t see why they can’t. Remember any objections have to stand the test of regulations, not just “I don’t like it”. We had a neighbour that objected to everything I did but none of them were applicable and we built what we wanted (eventually).
-
true, but when I visited a friend who moved to France to help with his renovation he was amazed at the locals that shot anything that moved.
-
The trouble with that is with no deal they have no access to our waters, at least a deal would give them some access! Also we sell most of our fish to the EU, with tariffs the cost of the fish they eat will go up. “Cutting your nose off to spite your face” springs to mind.

Choice of ASHP for near-passivehouse
joe90 replied to DInwood's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
my 5 kW ASHP only delivers one temp water, and I have set it to 48’, that is quite hot enough fir DHW as long as you store enough as you don’t blend down as much as you do with 60’ DHW. When in heating mode it heats a buffer tank with a stat set to 35’, this then feeds a UFH manifold with a blender set to 24’. It all works very well. -
Yes currently I pay monthly based on my actual usage and meter reading provided by me.
