Frankly I would wallop some tight pieces of wood into those gaps with a bit of glue. Any bending of a floor joist compresses the top layer so if it’s filled (tightly) it ain’t going no where. I was always taught to drill holes in the middle of joists which compromises their strength the least. (Difficult to get copper pipe in tho, thank god fir plastic pipe!).

With mine all doorways were left a little high and frames not put in till even the tiling etc was done. When the company poured our liquid screen he put down lots of little metal “Eiffel towers” that were adjustable to give exactly the depth we wanted. ? it’s all down to planning IMO.

round here (clay moorland) farmers roll grass regularly rather than airate it so rainwater runs off not soaks in. I managed to get lawn seed selected for clay ground as the roots go deeper. (I just hope it can swim?)

Self-Build with UK outside the EU
joe90 replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I do think that some will raise their prices and blame Brexit (rightly or wrongly) I think some did this with decimalisation (fir those old enough to remember it ?). -
My single heat temp on my kingspan unit is set to 48’ and I have yet to see it defrost!.

Depends on water pressure and flow incoming.

I have done a Lot of those in the past, rip off facia, soffit etc and a few rows of tiles and battens, straighten the joist ends a little, tuck in eave protectors, new facia and soffit, replace battens, tiles and guttering, simples ?.

I bought relatively cheap shower bar mixers but wanted thermostatically controlled for safety. Mine are not hidden units in the wall, spares readily available as they can “give up”. Was called it to a customer who bought an “all singing and dancing” fancy shower mixer that had gone wrong, just out of warranty and £400 fir a replacement valve, no thank you!!!!

Yes I have (sort of). I have UFH in a screed on top of PIR on a slab . Stove on an inside wall so used two 90’ bends down and back under the stove/hearth. 4” soil pipe in the bottom layer of PIR , out through the outside wall with grill on to stop rodents. I am sure you can do the same with an insulated slab as long as the pipes are put in before the slab is laid like the drains will be.

Building a loft room and roof maybe but this structure already exists.

Electric towel rails
joe90 replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
My towel radiators came with water/inhibitor already in them, turn upside down, remove blank and insert element if your choice. Beware, without thermostats mine got dangerously hot (scalding even), I swapped them for lower power ones after a while. -
= yes tiles will need moving tiles yes but roof structure no. (I don’t like Sherry ?).
-
Not if you instal a bigger facia board ?
-
I too like deep soffits, mine are 400mm ? (and have false rafters to make it look “cottagey “).

@cl2702, steamy tea is a member of the “don’t burn wood brigade”. I recently got called to a neighbours woodburner that was leaking like yours (but much worse) and the flue liner had the joints the wrong way up, so black condensation was running out the joins. Should be female joints face upwards.
-
@pocster you missed a bit by the door ?
-
They didn’t seal the joint properly when re installing the stove, however, condensation etc is a problem and probably best to do what @Cpd says above by insulating the flue.

just popped upstairs and it’s 74% (on a very cheap Chinese thingy), conservatory (non heated and ventilated) is at 85%.

Our indoor RH is quite high, and the outside RH very high. Our MVHR has an enthalpy filter and no drain, I do wonder if we had a different unit without an enthalpy filter and had a drain our internal RH might be lower. I will go and check the filter later and see how it is inside.

Whatever the figures are I hope sincerely we have a better method of restricting over fishing that does not involve throwing caught (dead) fish back overboard, a ludicrous system IMO.

Anyone would think you voted remain ?

And Boris has pledged m£100 for an up to date fishing fleet.
