Can you imagine this in stainless, I fired them out of the coil nailer, but any near the end I pre drilled and banged in with the estwing. I suppose if you need to pre drill a few screws might be better. On my last place I priced to do it in screws and it was £500 dearer than nails. Have you much to do or just the dormers.

Making a Piggery of It: the ICF
Russell griffiths replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
If you shutter it on the floor and pour it and then lift up. What is tying it to the walls below? Wont it just be a big triangle free standing on top of the other walls. I personally would build a dummy roof truss or a proper one if that's the sort of roof structure you want, and use this truss as a template to cut your blocks to. -
Does anybody do a pre hung door and lining without it being one of those over complicated adjustable things, just a door lining with hinges all routered and hinges routered into the door.
-
Those prices are scary. Our last house had 16 doors including matching wardrobe doors. I cant comprehend what sort of budgets some people have.
-
I too have used a coil nailer, stainless with a twisted shank, stays in place like a ring shank i will see if I have a couple about for a pic. Do you want a visible head or hidden.

Bonding Fibreglass to PVC Pipe
Russell griffiths replied to Barney12's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Why do I not see anybody using pipe cleaner before they glue a joint? I recently brought some in the plumbers merchant and when I asked for it the lad said that he had some out the back but they don't sell much and he didn't even know what it did. I used to glue up lots of pressure fittings and if you didn't clean properly they would blow apart. Nice roof btw.- 76 replies

They try again how can we stop them

I would re locate that horse box, it looks perfectly positioned for a quick getaway. -
So if I have to put in an ashp to run my ufh, why do I need a sunamp? Why don't I run it all of a ashp.

Ok so this is basically just to heat the hot water feeding taps and showers.

We also have a larder in our house now and will put one in the new house. I was thinking about running our main water into the floor area of the larder, now our water supply is very cold as it enters the house, could I put a radiator on the wall of the larder and have it mains water fed so it is cold to the touch, would that keep the air temp down in there. How about a piece of 32mm copper running just above skirting height below any shelves, running around the room linked to the incoming main.

Osmo oil, has anybody looked into the makeup of this product to see exactly what it is, to find if it can be brought under a different banner.

Ok I will start, by asking some total noddy things as this is a part of my build I'm really struggling to work out. How the hell does this thing work what does it do? Where do I keep my water? Will it provide water for my ufh? How is it powered? What happens if it's not sunny? There you go some proper numpty questions there. Cheers. Russ.

Our site is a sssi as well.

Ok some good points here so I will try and fill in a bit more info. Our site is a third of an acre sitting amongst another eleven acres, all owned by us. We have kept the building plot very neat and tidy very short grass no scrub, the ecologist found nothing of any interest, but the rest of the site COULD provide habitat. we have a planning consultant dealing with our planning and she has told us that the local council have been applying lots of conditions with anything that gets approved. Her opinion is that we do a CEMP and submit it with our ecology report so we are already showing how we will deal with any ecology on site. Do you think the erection of a newt fence around the whole building plot could provide a lot of proof that we are doing our bit to mitigate any risk to the little wriggling things. Cheers russ.

I cut mine with a diamond coated disc on a hand held grinder. Bear in mind good planning so all cut edges will either go into a corner, or hidden behind a socket.

Jack Daniels honey. Lots of crushed ice. -
Construction environmental management plan, that's a mouthful. My ecology guy said I will need one of these. Anybody done one or got any useful pointers I can use. Just reading our ecology report and and it seems that although nothing was found of any interest on our actual building plot(good planning) the rest of the site is very interesting and I need to put measures in place to mitigate any risk to all the silly little wriggling things that may want to visit the construction site. You couldn't make it up ?

I think it is to do with a big flat panel the angle of the sun and the light colour. I bet if you put a straight edge on it, it will look really good with hardly any gaps behind the straight edge, but to the eye with that white you will pick it out. Have you ever looked at a poor spray job on a car? You can spot it a mile away in the right light, but at other times you would never know.

Range cooker or hob/ovens
Russell griffiths replied to Shah's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
The choice is yours, will your house suite a range or would a fancy glass induction hob look nicer, only you can answer that. As for make I think we are having a mercury. Expensive but our friends have one and they love it. -
I would think @ProDave this is a different system to yours, correct me if I'm wrong but your wood fibre board it waterproof, whereas the osb is like a big sponge. Im going to put my hard hat on now?But this video shows why I dislike sips, relying on two sheets of osb as your main structure doesn't add up to me. Sorry.

The stucco thing is a very silly idea if you think about it. Render onto a timber frame, any cracking or poor areas around windows and other projections is asking for trouble. This his has made me think about different types of house wrap. The standard tyvec type flapping in the wind stuff that you see on most timber frames always looks badly installed to me. I am going to be leaning towards a system that is fully taped and sealed. Opinions.

The damage to the osb was a bit scary.

Anybody got a nutra bullet? I work with a young lad all bloody muscle, when we sit down and have a big chunk of cake he's slurping on his smoothie. I seem to run run out of steam at three in the afternoon and reach for a bar of chocolate, I keep thinking if I had a cool box with a couple of shakes in it I could slurp on that instead. My my wife thinks I should just give £90 straight to the charity shop as that's where she thinks it will end up ?? -
How do I dispose of ... ?
Russell griffiths replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
When I lived in oz (yawn). You could go to the tip as much as you like but there was a standing charge of $12, I would happily pay a tenner to get rid of a boot full of crap, I wonder if it has been thought of. There were here a lot of revenue gathering measures over here that the government seems to have missed.- 30 replies
