Drilling through metal web joists
Russell griffiths replied to Roundtuit's topic in General Plumbing
Can you get two 45 bends on it to kick it into the wall as soon as it enters the room. If you check with the manufacturer of the joists they will tell you if you can drill or not. -
Can you tell me who did the design and engineering for the frame.

I think you should do some sums and then re think ready mix. Unless you are 20 years old and all your helpers, at least 4 others are as fit as the proverbial butchers dog you are going to struggle mixing that. If you say you can't get a truck to it how are you getting your ballest to it? At some stage you are going to need to put something in a barrow, so if you have to put something in a barrow why not readymix. Doing some rough sums in my head you probably need 20plus tonnes of material. I know now how I would do it. 1 man on a mini dumper and 3 laying. Ready mix truck. All done in 1 day.

Looks excellent buddy. Can I ask why you have stick built and not had a frame made.
-
Aha. Just seen your other topic. ?
-
Looks good, are you stick building this on site. I want to do this to save a few quid, stick built my last house but it seems a rare thing to do here.
-
Yes the list will be huge, but I work on so many places where people don't think of simple things. Why only an outside tap on the back of the house. Why not one under the carport by the driveway. Just silly things that make the house work better.

Local repairs, then a good heavy lining paper then some minor filling and then paint.

15 degree pitch roof.
Russell griffiths replied to Russell griffiths's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I have just found a few but my rafter length is to long at just over 8 metres. -
Hi can anybody point me at some products suitable for roof pitch of 15 degrees. I have my own ideas just looking for suggestions. Thanks.

Is the bigger issue working out why you are not building up to be out of the flood risk? If you thought you where going to be. If like us I have had to spend a fortune on a fra so would want to know the right answers.

Can you imagine this in stainless, I fired them out of the coil nailer, but any near the end I pre drilled and banged in with the estwing. I suppose if you need to pre drill a few screws might be better. On my last place I priced to do it in screws and it was £500 dearer than nails. Have you much to do or just the dormers.

Making a Piggery of It: the ICF
Russell griffiths replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
If you shutter it on the floor and pour it and then lift up. What is tying it to the walls below? Wont it just be a big triangle free standing on top of the other walls. I personally would build a dummy roof truss or a proper one if that's the sort of roof structure you want, and use this truss as a template to cut your blocks to. -
Does anybody do a pre hung door and lining without it being one of those over complicated adjustable things, just a door lining with hinges all routered and hinges routered into the door.
-
Those prices are scary. Our last house had 16 doors including matching wardrobe doors. I cant comprehend what sort of budgets some people have.
-
I too have used a coil nailer, stainless with a twisted shank, stays in place like a ring shank i will see if I have a couple about for a pic. Do you want a visible head or hidden.

Bonding Fibreglass to PVC Pipe
Russell griffiths replied to Barney12's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Why do I not see anybody using pipe cleaner before they glue a joint? I recently brought some in the plumbers merchant and when I asked for it the lad said that he had some out the back but they don't sell much and he didn't even know what it did. I used to glue up lots of pressure fittings and if you didn't clean properly they would blow apart. Nice roof btw.- 76 replies
