Fire safety for structures - timber frame?
nod replied to Mr Punter's topic in General Construction Issues
The are Im just waiting to start plaster the one At Blackpool Most of the student accommodation are TF It would be difficult to keep to the tight deadlines on traditional built Once they catch they don’t half burn All that dry timber The upside is Ten years before the smoking ban ALL TF buildings where strictly no smoking No second hand smoke to breath in It seems mad now -
Last I installed a floor using gypsum Metset in the place of the joists It was like walking on a concrete floor Ultra straight but solid as a rock Hardly any sound transfer But comes at a cost
-
I use a lot of res bar But if you can spare 50 mil off your ceiling height and MF ceiling hung from the joists Is Far better than res bar
-
You would be better using acoustic slab 100 mil would be far more effective than full fill loft insulation
-
Window fitters are semi skilled at best Most are pretty Heavy handed and are looking to fit your windows as quickly as possible and tend not to worry if they are not level or square Either fit yourself or ask your joiner for a quote Either you would be far happier with the end result

Our footings were between 1500 and 1800 deep There was a delay in starting which meant a November start The whole site was flooded So I took the decision to full fill the trenches This saved me time and money

Looks fantastic and a really interesting read Keep the posts coming

I’m used to both TF and traditional Traditional is a much more solid build While TF are Quick Especially In winter They are prone to more movement and cracking And more expensive You will find your TH will go up a little slower but as you say will give you more flexibility
-
I used the inline type Very powerful and ultra quiet tucked away in the loft
-
Very pricey Russ Even with fitting ourselves it was one of the largest spends Around 20k Go knows what the supply and fit price would have been

We have just submitted We purchased a German kitchen and had exactly the same issue as you Proformas not invoices When we contacted the company They said sorry we don’t re issue invoices We went around the houses telling them that a Proforma is not an invoice It took three weeks of arguing to finally get the three invoices The annoying thing is we hadn’t or misplayed eBay invoices They were good as gold and sent copies on the day It seems to be the big companies that do this But I’m glad that the rest of your refund has come through

Insulating under block and beam floor with perlite

It would also render your telescopic vents pointless Though it would save you a few quid if you didn’t have to put them in- 35 replies

Thicknesses of insulation available to fine-tune FFL

I finished up putting the screed down myself with my son barowing All 150 metres At 56 I should have had more help My memories of what I used to get done in a day 30 years ago are a bit distorted I had intended using a concrete flow screed We tile quite a few now But just as I was ready for screed I had two ted floors fail on concrete It cost me a lot of money even though it wasn’t our fault One was the concrete had got under the insulation the other was the clips were showing when we were tiling The 60 mil that you mention would sort the later But it does leave you with an odd size -

If it was single skin like most garages There wouldn’t be problem -
I think I paid £170 The EPC is quite meaningless as it’s done from the information Supplied by you But you need someone that is registered to do the final SAP calcs I know what you mean with the EPC When we sold our house A chap came out and did us an EPC for £35

We asked both cil and planning and received the same answer As long as there is no Heavy machinery on site We took the roof of a building we intend to demolish and cut loads of trees down and created a fresh access point We were at it for five weeks riot to commencement It would have been easier to bring a digger on for a couple of days But didn’t chance it It saved us a lot of time when we did start

My friend has recently completed a self build A massive house in a very posh area He’s done vertically everything himself Nearly killed him Anyway he put the back to lawn as he was running low on funds While he was mowing with his self propelled mower A little bit from next door asked him if he was poor As they have a man that comes with a ride on mower

One of today’s posts has made me think Didnt want to hijack a thread I’ve been to look at a small job for a friend (Mates rates) He has 80 mtres of tiles to come up on a kitchen floor Quite a few hollow tiles I asked how long have they been like that He replied Since the day they where layer 24 years ago The floor tiles are basically sound Grout a bit dirty and outdated But would probably stay in place for another 24 years
