If going down the Legal route this could get costly and drawn out depending on the contract/order wording assuming it is in writing. if you ordered a bespoke door to fit an opening, then they have supplied, just poor finish and workmanship (non gender specific of course). I would say that unless you have a squeaky clean contract then Gus Potter has the best solution. as for the door itself, it can be salvaged and made much better by a decent joiner ( again you need to be careful in what you are asking for, some joiners are only good for framing, others are great at kitchen and bedroom fitting but you want someone who repairs furniture etc) not cheap but if you get what you have for 25% ish then you are on a winner.

I’m not volunteering to adjust it

Either a valve turned off that supplies the hot water tank or possibly (but unlikely) a blocked vent pipe preventing air escaping so no water going in, leave a hot tap turned on for a while and listen to the tank to check if water is going in

What are the best ways to save money ahead of a demolition

I was being sarcastic, I would have thought and hoped the FB would be promoting safety AND compliance with EA regarding fires -

Hmmm, so they are not bothered what you burn … lead paint, asbestos, creosote etc etc as long as it doesn’t spread and disturb their food or gym time. -
That should fit but does seem rather expensive. I love the note regarding wanting keyed alike but not working with one key ?

'Nother fine mess: too tight for fireboard and comfort

That’s a ridiculous spec for a wall removal. 305 deep for the span yes but as there is no lateral load and very little vertical load this is madness, as is the new foundation. -
Yes, trying to get our customers to change their machine usage and charging is like banging your head against a wall. theyhave been used to lead acid deep cycle, so leave on charge when not in use then run till dead before charging again …. Just what you don’t want to do with Lithium batteries
-
Discussing this with someone yesterday, we supply a lot of machines with lithium batteries and our biggest concern is the number of charge cycles. assuming you plug your EV in a home every day and use it everyday then you would get 365 charge cycles per year which isn’t too bad. if you then start discharging and charging several times a day the battery life will decrease rapidly.

Is this ground or upper floor? Where will the insulation be?

Painted internal window cills/boards - what material to choose
markc replied to Adsibob's topic in Windows & Glazing
If it’s to be painted then MDF, seal all edges and faces prior to install, not just the visible ones. Same if using ply. -
You do not need 100% opaque for privacy, a screen with shapes and gaps prevents anything meaningful being seen from a distance.

If you are only wanting to patch the hole then a bag of sand/cement mortar or mix your own at 4 or 5 parts sand to 1 cement

Found a condition in previous planning

As a new build there maybe several clauses preventing you from extending or changing use to an annex. -
A lot depends what will be going outside. You would normally pour the slab and then work the outside to match the slab. I am guessing it will be a decent slab to take some load away from the centre of the first beam

You will never please everyone so don’t let it get to you. the whole point of self build is to be and show individual and freedom of thinking. The sheeple who follow all the rules buy housing estate boxes and clean their BMW’s every Sunday morning. have a break for sure but stick around and share your F@#&£*& knowledge and experience. oh and the fly over

Absolutely. There is a price to pay for everything, sadly most people want without giving. -

Any reasonably intelligent person should accept that the climate is changing, but is that a bad thing? it may be devastating to humans but could be exactly what this planet needs. life started and everything has evolved through change, I’m sure if you asked the dinosaurs they would have thought a major impact would be the end of the world …. Which it was but for them, it allowed the earth to reset and lead the way to where we are now. Yes we need to stop the unnecessary waste, dumping plastics etc. Into oceans and consuming everything we can find, but is change a bad thing? losing 50% of the population would certainly help the planet. -
Ahh yes, I missed the “he told them” … must not speed read

The kitchen fitters should be used to fitting at “standard” height so my question would be why they fitted it so low? did they take a problem to the architect? just seems odd that they would just fit the cabinets at that height without a very good reason, - note on drawing etc.

Airtight test damages door?
markc replied to alayton's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I’m guessing this contractor thinks you blow the house up like a balloon. the sticky tape might do some damage tho -
It may have been spec’d, it may be as drawn but I would dig into what you have and find out (and be sure) rather than relying on presented documentation from 18 years ago

Was supposed to say “the above” not Thea over! Stupid predictive text.

I am all for organisations and individuals reducing their impact on the environment, reduce waste, recycle more, use different processes and materials etc. But it really grinds my gears when all these inefficient, heavily polluting and wasteful organisations pat themselves on the back for being so green by buying credits! Surely that’s like showing you are not in debt by borrowing more money
