  1. Hi all, I have a PVC window in my bathroom, and I'd need to paint the wood frame around it (see picture). I am now sanding the old paint away (as it was heavily exfoliating), and I am wondering what kind of paint/products I should use for painting it. Note that half of this frame is right above the bathtub/shower, which means it always gets some water on it. Thanks
  2. Hi all, I am taking off the wallpaper(s) from the walls of my bedroom, and I’m looking for advice on a couple of things. First, the walls have a few holes to be fixed: I can easily fill the small holes from nails/screws with some filler, but I am not sure of how to best approach the larger damages in the wall, as the one in the pictures attached: any suggestion on what products to use / guides on how to fix these holes? Second, once I have cleaned off the wall from any residue of wallpaper, I was thinking of sanding it a bit, cleaning it with sugar soap and then skimming the wall using PVA first and then some premixed plastering product (as this for example: https://www.diy.com/departments/diall-fine-finish-ready-mixed-finishing-plaster-15kg-tub/1849575_BQ.prd). Do you think that’s a good plan / should I look for different products / any other suggestion? Lastly, I want to replace the skirting board as it’s quite old and damaged, but it is somehow “connected” with the door frame (again, see picture). What would be the best way of doing it? My plan was to remove the skirting board, skim the walls and then put on the new one, but I am afraid I might end up with a large gap between the skirting board and the door frame. I attach a couple of pictures of the walls to give you an idea of the situation. Cheers :)
  3. Hi folks! My flat's wooden door has an old mortice deadlock that needs replacement. It's one of the old Chubb locks, that apparently (from the info I found online) is now rebranded Union. However, I can only find a few locks online that have similar size (but not 100% identical-which worries me a bit) but are 4-5 times the price of "more modern" models, which seem much more low-profile than the old ones, . These are the pictures and measurements of my old lock: https://ibb.co/TLbCzfs https://ibb.co/fMbK0Nm https://ibb.co/5LS8mpT And this is a possible replacement: https://www.lockshop-warehouse.co.uk/ac ... dlock.html which however costs much more than other models (which can be found at 20-30 quids), and measurement-wise is slightly taller than my current lock. Do you have any suggestions on what would be the "best" thing to do, in your opinion? I'd like to keep the current key hole and don't drill any more holes in the door, but I wouldn't mind to do some chiselling to make room for the slightly larger mortice lock, or use some wood filler and replace the old lock with a smaller one (however, I don't know how easy it would be then to fix the mortice lock on the wood filler with screws.. I suspect it might get a bit messy). I'm really puzzled and not sure of how to proceed, any suggestion is very welcome :)
  4. Hello folks! I just got in my new flat (in a tenement building in Edinburgh), and I’m planning to do quite a lot of DIY renovation works over the next few months/years. However, construction here in UK is very different from what I’m used to back in Italy: carpets and wallpaper are not really a thing there, and many other little things also differ from what I am used to. I will therefore have tons of doubts and possibly silly questions to ask, and I hope to find some help from more experienced people here! Cheers! Francesco
