  1. I had Amtico laid in my bathroom and ensuite. I had glued and screwed, at 100mm centres, 10mm marine ply to the 22mm Caberboard and filled and sanded the screw holes and joints. The fitter still went over it with a compound saying it needed to be perfectly flat to do a good job!
  2. You will need to take account of fire regulations in Part B.
  3. This is a starting point. http://www.ikeahackers.net/2017/05/classy-high-gloss-bespoke-loft-wardrobe-eaves.html
  4. We used grass block put on top of our front garden. It survived lorries and a crane and nothing got stuck. We took it up afterwards and most of it was reusable. We are in East Kent and it is pretty dry here although it was down for a few years.
  5. Hi Russ, welcome to the forum and good luck with the project.
  6. We used Lindab guttering RAL 7037 which was the same RAL as the windows, doors and zinc(Lacomet) work.
  7. I used Ipe but it it was for the decking. For my situation it seemed the best choice. I used this data to assess different timbers. Decking Timber Data.PDF
  8. Sorry to hear about your problems. There's always one thing that goes wrong in a big way, with me it was the foundations, let's just hope everything goes smoothly from now on. You'll be amazed at how these disasters fade into the past as the build progresses.
  9. Only a fool thinks they won't make mistakes. It's learning from them that's the trick!
  10. A starting point. Don't know how prices compare. http://www.postsaver-shop.com/
  11. Hi Herby, welcome to the forum. Elite make Duo interlocking blocks but I think they are for temporary walls.
  12. I only got 3 or 4 holes per Erbauer bit for around 20mm to 25mm diameter. The large bits, 50mm and 60mm I used Spectrum EPX but there weren't so many holes of that size so they lasted.
  13. I used different sizes of the Erbauer type to drill 14 holes in my porcelain tiles. I sprayed water on them and ran them at slow speed but they have a limited life.
  14. I've got a roll of stainless steel wire wool left over from my build. I bought it from a car factors, it's used in exhaust systems. You are very welcome to it, but you would have to collect it. I'm in East Kent.
  15. I would be worried about the vertical chalk face so close to the house. There have been several collapses of the chalk cliffs in that area recently.
  16. I did the same white on white and as you say just used the fact that the wet paint is shiny. I found it easier without too much light.
  17. It came down to money. They wouldn't contribute towards the cost of an underground line, which we wanted, but would use the subsidy to provide an overhead line which we didn't want. The net result is they've lost a landline customer.
  18. We're using a local company called Vfast, that use WiMAX, for our broadband and telephone using voIP. The problem we had with OR was they originally agreed to supply an underground line then changed their minds. That was because we already have an overhead line to the bungalow in the garden of which we are building our house. So they would only supply an overhead line to the new house.
  19. Ipe is great, I've got it on my balcony, but it is very heavy.
  20. I am in Kent and when we originally spoke to OR they gave us the ducting and told us we could have an underground service from the pole and bring it up inside the house. By the time we wanted the line put in they had changed the rules and told us they would only install a line to the outside of the house and it had to be overhead. Needless to say we are not going to be using an OR line.
  21. Many years ago I bought a magnetic 'domestic water conditioner' and fitted it as instructed. It didn't work so I complained and they sent me a 'commercial' version. That didn't work either so they asked what my water hardness level was. When I told them they said their system wouldn't work because the water was too hard. Got my money back though. Since then I have used various versions of twin tank water softeners which do work.
  22. That's the same as us which is why going away makes you forget about it. Wendy's always reminding me that I'm a grumpy old sod and that we are very lucky, which of course we are.
  23. For the first few years of our build we took 3 months off in the winter and went to Madeira for a few weeks each year. This slowed up our build quite a bit, as you can imagine, but was great for recharging the batteries. We haven't been away now for some time which has meant getting more done on the house but as you say motivation can be a struggle. Being able to forget about the build completely is great!
  24. Resin joint was my first search string. You can guess what Google came up with, until I put 'electrical' in front.
  25. As usual it's knowing what search string to use. I used 'adhesive lined heat shrink end caps' in the end. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adhesive-Lined-Heat-Shrink-End-Caps-PLCE100A-Various-Sizes-/272706037889?var=&hash=item3f7e8be881:m:msC7GCZWMR0pdmmnOQ0pSqQ
