  1. The anti-virus software warned me that the page contained a phishing scam so it was working well.
  2. It's interesting that my anti-virus software wouldn't let me open this thread until I over rode it.
  3. Wrong bit of Kent. We had about 1cm last night which has now disappeared.
  4. I've got a Jewsons account and not had any problems like that. Maybe it's just the branch you're using.
  5. I have external OSB racking on the walls and roof so the Icynene was sprayed onto the OSB and expanded inwards. I've no experience of Icynene being sprayed onto roofing felt. It is a flexible foam so possibly ok. IIRC the quotes I had varied by up to 30%.
  6. I have a couple of rows of brick slips stuck to the Peripor EPS foundation upstand around my porch. I used PU gel glue and they're still there three years later.
  7. +1 My son-in-law used similar devices on his roof and it solved the condensation problem.
  8. That's definitely the best way to approach it, reduce the stress!
  9. We went over to some relatives over Christmas the the boy had his PS4 connected to the big screen TV going nearly all day. When he finally stopped I asked him to turn the TV off and he didn't know how to and had to go and ask his parents! I guess it's left on all day normally.
  10. Hi Ness, welcome to the forum and good luck with the project.
  11. We've got three translucent glass pocket doors in our hall leading into three different rooms and they do allow light to move into the hall especially if the sun is shining into one of the rooms.
  12. Thanks, that's the one I've been looking at. Do you mind me asking what you paid for a days hire? Would it cope with 4" thick concrete.
  13. So did you hire and crush the bricks/blocks with a mobile concrete crusher? If so what one did you use?
  14. I've used 69mm MDF skirting and architrave. It doesn't warp or move and is easy to glue to the wall. I wouldn't use soft wood with a painted finish again.
  15. Hi Jane, welcome and good luck with the build. From experience I can tell you that the years pass by far too quickly when self building.
  16. Look, I get very little excitement in my life so the adrenaline rush from taking chances like this is welcome! You've answered your own question!!
  17. So I should think!! White spirit leaves an oily residue, meths doesn't. Looking good by the way, my other half can't believe what you've done.
  18. "There are two very different types of soakaway – foul water soakaways and surface water soakaways. Foul water soakaways deal with small volumes over a long period, whereas the rainwater soakaway may have to handle large volumes in a short time. ( A typical test for a surface water soakaway would be a pit 1000 x 1000 x 2000mm filled to the brim and the level recorded at various times until the pit is empty.) "
  19. Is this soakaway for surface water or foul water? It makes a difference. Link gives percolation test details. http://www.wte-ltd.co.uk/percolation_test.html
  20. Yes, I was trying to point out the importance of using a SE because they will be involved with all aspects even the seemingly less important.
  21. The cables are rated at 600V, 3A and 105C. I would have thought they would be fine but you could sleeve them with heat shrink.
  22. I have a portal timber I-beam frame. It has 15mm OSB3 external racking on the walls and roof. The SE even details the spacing of the ring shank nails fixing the racking. The spacing of the I-beams varies all over the frame depending on the loading.
  23. Our BCO is happy for us to have an open vent in the garden off the sewage treatment plant and AAVs in the house.
  24. I contacted the CEO Openreach 'clive.selley@openreach.co.uk' when I was having problems with Openreach. The email was intercepted by their High Level Complaints Team who apologised and said the complaint would be looked into but they were as useful as a chocolate teapot.
  25. Presumably if you use an in line heater you could use a standard thermostatic mixer shower? Would that be better than an electric shower?
