In Lindab's instructions it states that cutting with power tools will prevent the natural creep of the galvanising back over the cut edge which I think is due to the metal heating up when cut with power tools.
-
Is that Linden or Lindab guttering. If it's Lindab it can't be cut with power tools only with hand tools. I cut the holes in mine with tin snips the same size as the downpipe diameter.

Living near the sea or in an enclosed site with water nearby usually means higher humidity. So being inland on an open site presumably means lower humidity.

My extract motor is set at 25% for 1, 45% for 2, 75% for 3 and 100% for 4. The system runs at number 2 all the time. I have never had to increase the speed and in the bathrooms there is no condensation. IIRC @JSHarris said he had fitted a humidity sensor but that it wasn't needed.

@TerryE I've had several of the block salt softeners over the years and never carried out any maintenance. I did have a leak on my Harveys the other day and a technician replaced a valve and a push fit connector. He said they are expected to last ten years without maintenance.

Self build - foul waste connections advice please
Gone West replied to Weebles's topic in Waste & Sewerage
I have just put one of these on the BH Tool Loan Service. -
It's not a question of need but want. Where we live having wall and roof U values of less than 0.1 meant not needing to have a conventional central heating system ie UFH or radiators. This was one of our wants. I ran a lot of iterations of PHPP to arrive at this value. This is of course dependent on shape of house, weather etc, but works for us.

@dimpsy that's very interesting, I'll sign up for that. I vacuum ours every three months and change them every six months when they still don't look as bad as in the picture in the link.

It's on the side of the crusher in the picture. They're a Thanet based builders.

I can't see how it would be possible with brick and block. We have wall U values of 0.09 but that is with a 495mm overall thickness I-beam timber frame.

We only had the concrete crushed once which was with a 5000 series machine. They set the jaws at more than 50mm so we had to manually grade the crushed material through a 50mm mesh. If it doesn't pack up on you and there are enough of you to keep it fed then you can get a reasonable amount done. It depends how big the lumps are to start with and how small you want the final material. It is quicker to pass it through the crusher twice with large lumps than to try to get the size you want in one pass unless the lumps are small to start with.

23C is the perfect temperature in the house and car for my other half, although she is quite happy if it's 25C. Ahh, Edinburgh now I understand.

I find this useful. Pipe Sizes and Dimensions Chart.doc

Waterproofer : which to snog, marry or avoid?
Gone West replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Plastering & Rendering
I sincerely hope there won't be any future DIY for quite some time. The build has cured me of any desire to do DIY . -

It is possible to get an A without PV. We got an A(95) without PV and IIRC I was told it would be an A(103) with 3.6kW system. -
Great looking area. Good luck with the build.

Hormann Thermo65 door threshold problem
Gone West replied to mvincentd's topic in Doors & Door Frames
Yes I have an Internorm PH door that is flat faced and keeps the rain out. -
Yes that is what happened to us. We had to start paying council tax in January but moved in, in April. The house was signed off in February, although not complete. We submitted our claim in May, two weeks before the deadline of three months after sign off.

We have a grey squirrel that has suddenly appeared in the garden. There have never been grey squirrels around here because there is no woodland or significant trees other than orchards. It is being a pain chewing the bird feeders so I'll have to go into the loft and get my Weihrauch.

We have that colour grout in the ground floor tiles and it still looks ok with just over a year of use. -
Thanks for letting me join. Just about to begin building my new house.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your project. I'm not so sure about putting plant in the attic as some friends did that and are now taking their MVHR out and putting it somewhere more accessible.
