  1. I was going to use 4mm2 cable run in conduit in insulation, which as you say, in Appendix 4 of BS7671 would be ok for 26A. I'm thinking my system would be around 13A and the voltage drop would be small at 0.48%. So it seems I should be able to use the Rayleigh DIN rail meter which is only £4 more than the standard Rayleigh meter so would be a good solution for me.
  2. What size system is that and do you have micro-inverters or a standard inverter?
  3. The system is 10 panels each 305Wp so that would be 13.3A at 230V or 12.2A at 250V. The voltage around here is nearer 250V most of the time so is that ok or borderline?
  4. This one is made in China, which I suppose isn't surprising, but seems to have the necessary approval. What do you think? Rayleigh Instruments DIN Rail Meters.pdf
  5. I have received a quote from Wagner Renewables, thanks to @PeterW who recommended them, they were very quick. The quote includes a standard type generation meter and I was wondering if a DIN rail meter would be neater and take up less room. Has anyone used a single phase DIN rail generation meter in their CU for PV output? Are there any reasons for not using one?
  6. A friend told us to discount Corian. We went for granite in our kitchen. All ours gets is a wipe down with a damp cloth and it looks the same as when we moved in eighteen months ago, although it is black.
  7. Cap it off at the bottom and fill it with water. If no leaks from the solvent welds all good. Sorry didn't see CC post.
  8. I would use solvent weld if buried in a wall, but would pressure test well before covering.
  9. We have a Harveys Crown which is 490mm high and 460mm deep. The box is 210mm wide but with the pipe connections ours is 270mm wide.
  10. If you just want to save time cutting the bevel this is an option. https://www.draindepot.co.uk/110mm-plastic-underground-drainage-pipe-chamfer.html
  11. One of these cuts and bevels in one. I'm seen them a lot cheaper than this though. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Monument-Ppc110-Drain-Cutter-Beveller/dp/B0001P0GCG
  12. We have an ensuite but I could quite happily live without one. I think buyers would expect an ensuite these days but just because you have one doesn't mean you have to use it.
  13. We designed our own house back in 2009. At the time there was a scheme called 'Architect in the House' where a participating architect would visit you at your home to go through your plans in return for a donation for Shelter. It worked well for us, picking his brains to improve our plans.
  14. We've used this stuff before. https://www.screwfix.com/p/fablon-window-film-frosted-675mm-x-1-5m/74393
  15. Our house had a roof and windows for years before we started paying council tax. We had visits from the council tax inspectors over a number of years and just told them we didn't have electricity or water.
  16. Hi and welcome to the forum. I would add waterproofer and not worry too much about the concrete being wet. There are some useful videos using a shiny board in the mould to create a smooth finish.
  17. I removed our asbestos roof tiles. I wore the full kit with mask etc and damped down the tiles before removing, even though it was outside. I then gave them to the asbestos removal team, who were stripping the inside of the bungalow, and they bagged them up. They seemed a lot more casual about handling the asbestos (Chrysotile) than me.
  18. Took down some architrave in our last house and on the back it was signed and dated 1900.
  19. I've decided it's pointless trying to use cost/m2 as a comparison. I can make my costs/m2 vary significantly just by how I measure the area, whether I include tools I bought to do specific jobs, what paperwork I include, whether I include demolition. Do you include renting or buying a caravan while building. What standard of finish, will it be upgraded at a later date, so be done cheaply initially. How many storeys to the building. Too many variables to be useful.
  20. Our BCO wasn't interested in the water usage either. I just told him all the taps and showers were aerating and water usage would be low. I guess we were lucky as I never did any calculations nor worried about bath sizes etc.
  21. The instructions for our MVHR came with a crude setup to get started, which we ran for a couple of months before we moved into the house. We then set up the system for the BCOs final visit which we ran for about a month and then changed it to PH rates. It worked with each of the setups but it is quieter with the current setup but without measuring the CO2, power consumption etc I don't know how much difference it really makes.
  22. That wasn't the case for me. I had all the results ready to show him for building regs. compliance and he wasn't interested. So after setting it all up for SAP, which he wasn't interested in, I set it up again for PH rates which it's been running at for eighteen months without problems.
  23. It's pretty straightforward. My blog has details of how we installed our MVHR and commissioned it.
  24. In June the hedgehogs turned up before it got dark and we sat outside and watched them. As you say they seem to a have a routine. Ours trundle round the garden have something to eat and drink and then disappear into the verge on the other side of the lane.
