  1. I thought the PB was screwed to the same plastic bits as the battens would be..?? That seemed to be the way with Nudura (??) or whatever it was ! Who's system is it btw..?
  2. Normal method for identifying who owns the boundary is by the use of a "T" on the fence. In the picture above, the boundary to the right of Plot A owns the fence, in the Plot B they own the bottom fence. Does that help...???
  3. I was talking to one of the suppliers at a show and they said they had a modified gun type soldering iron that they used to cut simple grooves into the ICF blocks up to about 25mm deep. Surely that makes more sense than battening out ..?
  4. I'm ploughing through the final bits for submission of BRegs and I've come across an interesting query.... The build being undertaken is listed as a Conversion and Extension on the planning application, and is effectively the conversion of a large 28sqm footprint double garage, and adding on two extensions of around 30sqm and 45sqm respectively. As its listed as a conversion, and to all intents and purposes the walls will remain from the old garage (it was built for the purpose of conversion in 1992) then its questionable as to whether it needs to follow L1B or L1A. If I read the terms in L1A then the creation of the house from the garage constitutes a material change of use as per the definition. If that is the case, I assuming all of the DER, TER, SAP and Pressure testing goes out of the window and basically I'm on best endeavours in relation to meeting the regs on an elemental method..?? Does that sound reasonable or have I missed something..??!!
  5. That sounds a little odd Anna - if that is official guidance from someone I would get them to check their source.. Best place to find all the "rules" for windows and so on is the building regulations approved documents. They are freely available on the planning portal website and can be downloaded. They aren't the easiest to read but there is lots of guidance in there. Any questions just ask - there are plenty of people who've had to live and breath them for the past few years...!
  6. Its via Buildsafe for the warranty. Height will be on the elevations, and it won't usually be marked ! What happens is they put the scale at a printed page size on the plans (1:50 at A3 etc) and then you just use a scale rule to read it off. If you use 2.4m for ceiling, and 250mm per floor depth, for the purposes of estimating you won't be far out.
  7. Hi Rule of thumb is that if the ceiling height is less than 1m it is not counted as floor space. For info, 162sqm warranty is coming in at around £650 at the moment for us Thanks Peter
  8. Been offered the A200S at very good price.... As in £600 which is cheap in my book !
  9. Normally have a bar that attaches to a noggin and the pipe work is plumbed onto that at first fix. Shower bar fitted after it's been tiled
  10. Thanks ! Reading up, the A series ones have been retained for commercial and flats etc as they can use combined flues which are uncommon in the UK. 5 year warranty apparently so will see !
  11. Has anyone come across Atag boilers before..? Looking at options at the moment on a few things, and been offered an Atag A200S system boiler at a rather ridiculous price (or I think so..) They have 5 year warranty but seem to be a commercial unit even though they have a Sedbuk A rating. The only references I can find are commercial ones so any assistance appreciated !
  12. Nice ... But not sure about the welding on that plate onto the dipper arm !! Looks easy enough to fabricate without having to alter the arm, or create a simpler way of attaching. I saw something similar with the anvil stationary and the blade moving - this seems to copy that in reverse.
  13. Agree if you have the access. Most of the problems with the multi tools is people not turning the speed down and using the wrong blades - use a decent sharp blade and take your time and you can cut most things ..! I cut a doorframe free of plasterboard and moved it 3" across and you couldn't tell it had been done..! Like most tools, they have their uses !
  14. Is that the whole site or just the house footprint..? I moved a lot and created new levels when I built a big extension as it was easier than taking off site and our slope was probably 900mm in 12 metres.Its surprising where you can hide a lot of soil...!
  15. 250mm doesn't sound a lot in terms of slope ..? On a 10x10 site that would be an additional 16 cubic metres dug out - or less than 2 large skips. If you're digging out for a passive slab anyway, it possible makes it cheaper to go full depth from the start. What is the ground make up ..?

  17. Sterling Build do their own triple glazed but I'm yet to find one I like or as big as I need !!
  18. Can anyone remember the best place to get the expanding foam and the decent guns that doesn't need another mortgage...? The Sika one looks decent ( but it says high expansion) with free gun and cleaner, seen here The Soudafoam stuff is cheap, but is it any good..? Or is there not much in it..? Here Or has anyone got any better links..??
  19. +1 to the Johnstones stuff - we use it for toilet floors at an activity centre and we use cheap £3 brooms from Wilko and a washing up bowl. One person goes round the edges (and first two brick courses) with the floor paint, the other paints the floor with the big brush. We do a whole building in a couple of hours at most and that's a lot of edges to cut in !!
  20. Have you got a MultiMaster or one of the other multi tools ..?? Makes it much easier to cut the pipe level as you can attack it from all the way round quite easily.

I don't think the comment is relating to the supplier, more that merchants haven't actually provided what was asked for and in one instance - internal wall sound insulation - provided a product that is wholly unsuitable and not being used in its correct manner as a thermal insulation. I'm aware - as are many - that the blog includes a series of reviews on the Sunamp unit which like a fair few others were released at a reduced price by the manufacturer in return for monitoring and usage data. I know that some of the issues Jeremy documented were fixed in later units and I'm pretty sure when this was discussed previously the agreement is a "warts and all" review - hardly biased IMO.

  23. Is that a solvent weld joint at the bottom or a push fit ..?? Solvent has to be perfectly aligned so put it all together and a sharpie mark at two points from the pipe onto the floor so you get it spot on when it's glued up
