Those turntables can't be that expensive to fabricate - got any decent engineering shops near you ..?? If you think of it as a disc running on castors around a centre pivot then it is a pretty simple construct. If you make the lower run from concrete too then it's even simpler. Where is @Onoff when you need him ......
-
I was always amazed how much those turntables cost - £15k for what is effectively two steel rings, some castors and a small motor !! I agree with what you say about hammerheads becoming parking spaces - most houses having at least 2 cars now mean that it becomes a necessity.

Dead easy to learn to drive them - even @recoveringacademic has his own ....!

Liability on a neighbour's land
PeterW replied to LeanTwo's topic in Party Wall & Property Legal Issues
Property owners have a legal obligation to anyone on their property to ensure it is safe - you cannot sign this away ..! What happens if you go round to sign it and trip over a loose paving slab on the way back ..? Nothing to do with the build but you have potentially signed away a right according to them.! Ask them if it's a requirement of their insurance company. -
No - the falling water will create pressure that will be equal to the force required to lift the water ...

@Declan52 is right - can you see the water pipe into the house ..? If it's blue MDPE then you may struggle unless it's got tape over it. When was the house built ..?
-
Have you tried the plotfinder websites ..? Some can be good, others not so ... usually better than Rightmove though ..!
-
So first off, get hold of a CAT and signal genny from a hire shop -shouldn't be too expensive. Attach the genny to the incoming water pipe at the stop tap and then it will give you a decent signal to trace the water back to the road - just mark it with marker spray as you go and then take measurements and photos ..! Gas can be slightly more complex depending on the pipe used. Some will pick up easily on radio on the CAT, sometimes it's easier to just dig ..!!

PeterW replied to Tennentslager's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
These work ..?? http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/heating-controls-valves-c436/jtm-radiator-valves-c157/jtm-corner-towel-rail-valves-15mm-pp19621 By shroud do you mean something that covers the hole in the wall ..? And are you getting rid of the element too ..? Just hot water ..? -
Excellent !! Get digging ....!

The prime cover is for items such as windows, doors, roofing membranes etc that come with their own warranty. For example if you have a window with a 10 year guarantee and at year 5 it fails, BuildZone will cover the replacement and pursue the manufacturer on your behalf. The reason being is that if the manufacturer repairing or replacing it causes damage to other parts of the structure then it is up to you to sort this if you have gone direct, not BuildZone And if you want their warranty, go direct to Sennocke as they are superb..! I can advise which broker to avoid ...

I've got some foam tiles at about 80x80 with ramp edges if you want a couple to try as a working surface in front of a bench or a machine ..? I use them as it makes it comfortable to work for a while but I also have the floor painted under them so I can wash it down

Appliances: brand new or brand name?
PeterW replied to Crofter's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
Bosch Neff Siemens and Smeg come out of the same factory - many of the components are shared. Electrolux do a similar list, Creda Hotpoint, Whirlpool and Indesit are again a family of products. All Ikea brand is Whirlpool. If if you check online there is a really good retailer of high end stuff with slight marks etc at silly prices - £3k John Lewis double fridge freezer for £1300 etc. AEG stuff is pretty good and so is Samsung - neither seem to have comparable cheaper siblings and you can get some good deals currently on last years AEG stuff via Trade Appliances -
First delivery driver put it on the wall but on its side .... this one picked it up with slings and lifted it up onto the first floor so we could twist it in the slings and then put it perfectly onto the padstones so a bit of "adjustment" and it was pushed into place with the sledgehammer ..! Next ones are a challenge as the hiab can't reach ....

Ok so everyone is suggesting a plate and pot as they thought you still wanted to use the stove ..! A well bedded pot still leaks slight down the edges but the lead flashing tray should catch that if the chimney has one. Otherwise just cap the whole stack assuming you will never use the stove and make sure it can't be used without someone checking first ..!

65mm on edge side by side would be 130mm with a 10mm bond making 140mm..?? I'm talking about using a standard 65mm coursing aircrete brick btw...
-
I prefer biatch...... I'll bring my bucket of steam and the spirit level bubbles...
-
Even laid on edge side by side with a 10mm bond would give 140mm... This cat can be skinned lots of ways - first thought would be persevere in getting a supplier of 140mm wide as they are available...! I've had a pack of 140mm blocks this week straight off stock so I know they are out there...
-
..... and if you do it before January 2019 I'm sure @Nickfromwales would even travel over and install it....

Controlling underfloor heating in passive house
PeterW replied to dogman's topic in Underfloor Heating
I agree - if the tech is there then use it, if not then standard time switches on industry standard back boxes make most sense as they will allow you to swap in the future. For it a single zone slab, timer to run the circ pump and a modified W Plan for heating a DHW tank and Buffer as primary / secondary heat sources I came up with this -
Hi all - new member with a build starting soon.

Controlling underfloor heating in passive house
PeterW replied to dogman's topic in Underfloor Heating
You can use the third timer on some of the newer controls - one for heating, one for DHW and one to control the circ pump
