  1. Ok so the simplest would be to use the thermostat to drive a contactor - you can pick one up for change of £10 and an enclosure is £3-4 at most so that will sort your switching via either a pipe stat (non intrusive) or via a room stat.
  2. Thanks - got it at about £4.10 inc VAT from Online Cables but that’s about £1/m more than last year so was wondering if anywhere cheaper still or if I’m just being tight ....
  3. No issue at all although it’s the bridging from TF to the masonry that causes the issue. It leaves an open cavity that needs to have a tray over and also a potential cold bridge. Got any sections ..?
  4. Old trick was a roadkill rabbit into the tank - and it’s the wrong thing to do... search for EnBac and other products that can be used as kick start
  5. Just looking at ordering some 16mm 3 core XLPE armoured - anyone got a decent source for 35m..??
  6. @Moonshine any chance you can post your plans and can try and advise. If its just driveway then using no-dig driveway crates are fine - problem is normally services and ensuring that there are no issues with drains going through the area. What is the tree and the soil type ..?
  7. Ok .... RPZ is only required where it has been deemed as required on a tree within a tree survey to BS5837:2012 or the tree is within either a conservation area or has a specific or site wide TPO. All construction work “should” consider trees however a lot doesn’t. A ground level tree survey by a decent tree surgeon shouldn’t be much more than £300-400 at best, and you can do them yourself if you can identify a good tree from a bad one ..! Grey area with all trees is their “amenity value” and whether they do add anything to the landscape especially in an urban environment. I’ve come across a couple of councils recently where the tree officer has retired - usually an arborist by trade - and has been replaced with a graduate with a degree in environmental science ... sadly some of these are just past page 4 on the Ladybird Book of Trees and they don’t have a clue but are very influential all the same ...
  8. Just check that’s not £245 all in as that is about right for 5 weeks inc delivery and collection
  9. Don’t worry about it - it’s dubious as to whether it does add strength anyway. Just do the next layer, sand and paint once and then fill any imperfections.
  10. I’d let him get on with it and finish your bathroom.....
  11. Not sure - I think you can take the head off and rotate it 180 and also spin the spindle round too so it engages.
  12. They are the same thing .... if you leave a low expanding foam for 5 mins - and give a quick mist of water from a garden sprayer - it will expand to about 75% of its final volume. If you then squash it onto a wall or a board it will pretty much bond instantly. Hold it with a temporary brace and it will be rock solid in an hour.
  13. Is the head on the right way round ..??? A B is correct as stated - or is as per a Danfoss one I’m looking at ..!
  14. Sounds like a programmed W Plan so that irrespective of programme, if DHW calls then it opens the valve. Seems to refer to the EU type valves that need power in both directions to open and close.
  15. I wondered this too although you would have hoped that the Installation instructions would have indicated to remove it ..!
  16. Beads are glued together - they spray them with PVA as they go into the cavity so set semi solid. Damp bridging is something that used to occur but is extremely rare now. Is it brick exterior leaf..?
  17. Welcome how wide is the cavity and why the reluctance with beads..?? Using EWI with a standard cavity wall will end up over 450mm just to get to BRegs so it’s a huge amount of wall with a pointless cavity.
  18. Feels like a lifetime .....
  19. Crimewatch in the late 90’s kids tv in the 80’s...
  20. A full sheet of 6mm ply is £12 from B&Q. Hardboard is about £8 How much is one wrong piece of glass in comparison ......????
  21. Bending the gauze into a U shape, it will try and return to flat so if you bend it and tack it to the wall side with the bend uppermost, the gauze will naturally push outward against the cladding.
  22. Nope... Wickes are extortionate for this sort of stuff as it’s non-standard ..! Thats a very good price btw - better than I can get (about £26 from memory) but you probably want to buy double that width and make it into an inverted U shape behind the cladding.
  23. Some of the biggest issues come from having to be on site and make decisions at odd times, and accept that it may not go to plan as work will be done which might not be exactly as you envisaged. Add in that some downtime and family time is needed then you will soon find weekends and evenings disappear in a blur.
  24. Odd one - Fermacell doesn’t need a skim finish, it’s done with FST. You ‘can’ skim it but to do so you need to prep it properly and it’s pretty pointless as the finish is near perfect with filler and FST. If you want to keep the sound insulation and reduce cost then go with sound block plasterboard and skim.
