VAT Ground workers
Triassic replied to Triassic's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
It’s a self Build. His invoice does not separate out his actual time, his invoices say “excavating for foundations, 4t Digger for 10hours, plus, use of pecker per day” -

Does anyone know of any deals on under the sink water heaters, something betwet 6 and 10 litres? -
I have two 20 foot containers, they are set positioned just off the drive in some trees. When they arrived one was red and the other as blue, they stuck out l8ke a sore thumb, so I repainted them both Olive Green Drab, they blend into the background so well that we’ve had visitors park in front of them and miss seeing them.

Didn’t someone produce a checklist of what’s needed to comply?

When things go wrong - Concreting of UFH slab
Triassic commented on oranjeboom's blog entry in Kentish RenoExtension
I’m in the best doing it your self camp, but my wife wants things done quicker. I’m currently fixing the reinforment steel for my basement, I’ve got two local guys helping me, they weren’t impressed when I insisted they get into their waterproofs and get stuck into some work during two hours of heavy rain this morning. Apparently I’m a slave driver! -
When things go wrong - Concreting of UFH slab

We had the same problem about ten years ago when doing a major renovation on a previous property. Although our bodgit builder had marked levels, his concreteing gang mainly ignored them. We considered grinding off the high spot and filling the low spots, however having talked to the tiler who was going to tile some of the floors, we went with his recommendation to tile the whole lot. He used a sand and cement mix (as used by the Victorians prior to modern adhesives). He guarrenteed that none of the 900 x600 slate tiles would come up and none did. He started his setting out at the highest point and worked everything back from there. Our UFH worked a treat with the slate, always warm feet. -

So the feed and return pipes for my Ventilation system, are they big giant holes or small holes?

I’ve just realised that the I section steel beam located in the middle of my floor joists of my first floor means I can’t run my services from one side of the room to the other without drilling holes in the web, are there any rules about this, or is it a SE redesign required to include holes?

I’ve also had the same problem,,sent BC a huge wodge of document, yet he asks questions covered by the documents. maybe you should reply to each question with a separate short email. Maybe then he’ll read it , tick the appropriate box and move on.

I did my own peculation tests. No questions asked. I do know that the perculation field will work because Ive just raised the ground by four feet using the limestone excavated from my basement.

Our site is in a Radon protection area. So I’ve fitted the radon barrier under the insulation, I assume I’m correct to bring the radon barrier up the basement walls to ground level. If so, why would the architect specify a separate tanking membrane? Surely in only need one water and gas tight membrane?

The discount code still works. Not impressed by a £24 delivery charge for 10 rolls of tape, so cancelled the order. Any suggestions when to buy air tightness tape without ridiculous delivery charges ?

So my DIY insulated foundation project has started, after weeks of digging and peckering the basement is dug and with the help of two local ground workers I’ve started levelling up the surface prior to installing the insulation. This is the view of the left hand side of the basement. No doubt more photos will folllow as the Work progress.

Advice on DHW & heating please.

What’s the problem with chilblains and UFH, just curious! -
I’ve talked to a number of admix suppliers and they do make this waterproofing chemicals stuff sound like a black art. Taking the cost of the admix into consideration, it sounds like my only local batch plant has a £35m3 mark up on waterproof concrete.
-
Which make do the hire shop have and How much are they to buy?
-
It’s good to know the price of ordinary concrete. It’s been suggested that the waterproof admix is £24 per sachet and a sachet will do a m3.
