  1. I’ve demolished the old timber bungalow and have a pile of old bricks and around 200 tonnes of limestone from excavating the foundations. Has anyone used an on-site crusher and if so, was it worth the time, effort and money?
  2. So with site clearance started, I need to buy a site security CCTV system. Having looked at various systems and specifications I find it all a bit confusing, so Can anyone recommend a decent system? Ideally one that records to a hard drive and has an email alert built in.
  3. So what is the optimium time for site insurance? I’m thinking that two years should be long enough! What would experience suggest?
  4. I’m annoying our neighbours with two weeks (and counting) of peckering, I’ve got lots of rock to shift for our basement. You can’t beat the sound of a pecker at 7:30 in a morning.
  5. I build a cabin at the bottom of the garden, 35m2. My wife and I are living it now. All very cosy. We start excavating for fo7ndations next week.
  6. Missed that post, sorry!
  7. Where I used to live they've banned cyclists from riding on the road across the only two bridges over the local river. They can only use one of the bridges and must dismount and walk across pushing their bikes on the footpath. The car is king!
  8. Wood burning could be banned in some of the most polluted areas of London, under new restrictions proposed by the capital’s mayor. Sadiq Khan wants the power to ban burning wood in parts of the city with poor air quality, due to the fine particle pollution they cause. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sadiq-khan-ban-wood-burning-stoves-london-air-pollution-fires-mayor-smog-a7973576.html
  9. I'm still missing a yellow fibreglass handled claw hammer, it's been missing for four months, no doubt it'll turn up, sometime!
  10. The 200mm core was s what the SE specified, never thought to question or challenge it!?
  11. Well the ICF quotes are in and the Amvic 330(200 core) ICF system is looking the like the front runner at this stage. Has anyone got an xperience of the system they'd like to share, things like customer support, ease of use, problems etc.
  12. I've started to get quotes back from the various companies and interestingly they are all very close in price. I had thought there'd be a wide spread of prices, clearly they don't compete on price.
  13. Also worth checking the gutters are working and not overflowing and constantly wetting the exterior wall in the damp area. A neighbour had a damp patch and this was traced to a leaking leaf flashing, this allowed water to trickle down inside the cavity wall. So worth checking the roof for loose flashing and defective tiles.
  14. I'm about to build a site loo out of demolition leftovers, a close coupled loo, a small sink, 3x2" and OSB. luckily I've got water and a septic tank on site. Overall it'll save me a few hundred quid which I can put to better use elsewhere.
  15. Having looked at the various systems, some use plastic cross ties and others are wholly formed of polystyrene. I assume the ICF systems using plastic ( or on a few cases steel) ties, will be stronger? Is there a definitive list of which system uses what, or is it a case of looking at ever web site for the answer?
  16. Does anyone have the UK contact details for Nudura ICF, I'd like to get a price off them.
  17. Just a thought, We capital raised using our last house to buy the current one. Maybe you could do the same, assuming you can make the mortgage payments. Bugger! You really are in a horrible place. Maybe once you've had time to think, you should name the institution that pulled the rug on you, at the very least it may help others steer clear of them.
  18. I think you were done! from the South Lakes Council web site.. Uninhabitable and vacant properties Two classes of 'local' discount have been available since 1 April 2013. We have set this discount at 100%. uninhabitable property that requires, or is undergoing, major works to render it habitable, or is undergoing structural alteration. This discount will apply for a maximum period of 12 months (as long as the property remains unoccupied and unfurnished)
  19. My local BM quote £120 +vat for 100m2, hence my question. Oh and they don't have any air tightness membrane or tapes on stock.
  20. Sorry, my mistake, I meant air tightness. Oh and not forgetting Radon.
  21. I need to buy radon membrane and the price at my local BM is a bit steep compared to on line. Can anyone recommend any of the online sellers, or is it a cast of pot luck. I'll also need a vapour control membrane, again, any recommendations.
  22. A quick Search on.line will bring up all manor of water treatment chemicals. Including Sodium Hypochlorate tablets and pure liquid bleach.
  23. I'm in the "home for life" category, so won't be taking out a warranty, I'm not sure what value they add, if any.
  24. Oh yes, I've read them all. I was interested in the various other systems mentioned on page one of this thread and their cost/value from the users prespective.
  25. I'm interested in using ICF for my basement, does anyone have any cost analysis of the various ICF products compared with traditional shuttering (steel and/or timber)? Which method is the most cost effective?
