  1. I can’t answer your question (sorry) but I do know that equestrian does not usually count as agricultural (local friend is a parish councillor).
  2. If you don’t want large radiators why not UFH upstairs in a biscuit mix within a wooden floor like @ProDave.
  3. Cracking job mate, bet your really pleased ?
  4. Group hug!,,! (Oh that’s not allowed anymore ?)
  5. That sensor is not at the bottom of the tank so I don’t believe you will have 400litres of hot water. My tank (350l )has two pockets fir thermostats at 1/3 and 2/3 from the top, I put it in the top pocket fir two of us but move it to the lower one if we have visitors.
  6. My build was sand and cement screed then thin coat plaster, dried no problem (and a lot cheaper).
  7. Oh no your not, join the queue. I use an iPad. Touch the beginning of what you want to quote, drag to include text and a “quote’ thingy comes up. (No idea with any other devise).
  8. ? yup ?
  9. oh it’s not a problem!!!. If we did not use the woodburner the UFH will cope, but the wood comes free, electricity does not and we love looking at a fire (cave man instinct ?). then I suggest your hysteresis is not 0.5 degrees
  10. Quite normal for older timber, I would not bother doing anything, but if it makes you feel better use d4 foaming glue in there.
  11. Before the heat pump was installed I ran the UFH on immersion within the buffer tank (£££££) just to get the house up to temp. It runs rarely, my problem is my room stat has a high hysteresis (3’) so I tend to manually turn it on/off now and again, but saying that the house stays a constant 20/21 degrees, we tend to use the wood burner on cold winter nights mainly because it makes us feel better, lounge gets up to 24’ ? (which er indoors loves) and it’s still noticeably warmer in the morning as well.
  12. Not heard that before, I run mine at 25’ and return at 21’, yes slow to react but keeps house a constant temp.
  13. When doing work like that I make a large set square from 3 lengths of roofing batten (that are straight!!!!) using the 3,4,5 rule.
  14. Pick, trowel, loppers, get as much root out as possible. Just make sure the diagonals are equal, ?
  15. yup, insulation works both ways, think house insulation verses tea flask.
  16. unfortunately it was not designed properly, if mine did not work properly then I only have myself to blame as I designed it (with much help on this forum) but I had no prior knowledge how they worked, only limited plumbing knowledge. This set up was designed by a company who I think are completely at fault. Valiant have been good at solving the noise problem (eventually ). But the buck stops with the designer/installer but zoot is getting no answers from them and suffered stress from the problems. If it were me I would go to trading standards, then the gov dept that paid fir it under a grant scheme as others may be getting the same shit service. At the risk of repeating myself it is not fit fir purpose (the basis for buyers rights under law.) (here endeth the sermon ?).
  17. The problem with insulation is it does not create heat, it only slows it down to varying degrees. If no heat is being produced then no amount of insulation will make the place warm. Thick stone walls (thermal mass ?) can retain heat to an extent but if cold will only suck heat from the interior.
  18. I don’t think parapet walls are bad if designed right and made properly. Some parapet walls are in front of large sloping roofs so the amount of water being held back is large.
  19. And lead cracking due to old age/fitting badly, I used to replace with GRP, no joints, bullet proof.
  20. I speak as someone who has diy ed my own small porch roof but have done roof galleys, parapet gutters and flat roofs fir customers in the past when I was a builder. I never had a problem with a roof I did but was extremely careful regarding weather (refusing to do roofs in winter).
  21. Personally I would not hang a towel radiator on plasterboard fixings, a wet towel dragged off it will create sideways stress, noggins all the way fir me.
  22. and me (have done that myself in the past, usually works). (Self delete in 3, 2, 1)
  23. Reminds me of a friend who worked in armed forces development, they were tasked with developing a means of identifying mines/IEDs fir the troups on the ground in Afghanistan, the Russians were reported to have used donkeys driven in front of their troops to find them ?
  24. +1 for GRP, indestructible but very weather dependant when installing.
  25. Right chaps, ASHP behaving ok, light frosting and slowly bringing the buffer up to temp fir the UFH. DHW already hot because of immersion overnight ?. I think I panicked when I saw it defrost as I had not seen it do that before and unfortunate that it was in DHW mode, recent bath and shower meant little hot water to defrost with. On further thinking my defrost mode pumped hot water through the fins but the fan was not on, if it was then the cold air would suck the heat from the fins even faster, so perhaps defrosting without the fan on is the best way. Interesting that on one of the coldest nights without UFH the house temp dropped by less than 1/2 a degree, so insulation works (but don’t tell zoot ?).
