  1. There is no accounting for some people’s tastes!
  2. My build was brick and block (for many reasons) and my main contractor had two guys working here full time and I was gofer, tea maker , project manager (making sure it was done the way I wanted ). I worked full time with them fir a whole year making sure they had what they needed and didn’t waste time doing what I could for them. After they left I did all the fitting out, tiling etc, it’s amazing how you can contribute in non specific ways.
  3. Zoot, one of your problems will be the doors from old to new parts are not insulated or airtight so the old will suck heat from the new. Lack of insulation should have been calculated when your system was designed.
  4. it depends where the boundary is, centre of the wall?, your wall? Their wall? See where it joins the house.
  5. Join the club ?
  6. I did not think special provision fir dedicated points were necessary as each room has plenty of 13amp sockets and all panel heaters etc come with a 3 pin plug (and timer and thermostat if required).
  7. Well you won’t rust (or fart).
  8. ???????? frankly you don’t know that (now you can have it on longer), my house took weeks to get up to temp because the walls, floors etc needed to get up to temp, once at that temp it was easier to keep it that way. You have very thick stone walls (in the old bit) with no insulation, that will take time to warm up. IF, once up to temp, it won’t stay that way then the system was designed wrongly and (here I go again!) NOT FIT FIR PURPOSE. give it a chance.
  9. Welcome Rich, I am sure you will find a wealth of info here and I am also sure you will provide your own within your knowledge base.
  10. small price to pay fir getting it right ?.
  11. @zoothorn from your photo I thought your hinges were going on the 20mm? Not the 25mm?, whichever you think is best for the timber your using. If the hinges are going on the cross ledges (20 + 25mm) then go for 40mm, longer is best.
  12. Worth a punt https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-Pieces-Pack-20mm-Long-4mm-Black-Finish-Countersunk-Cross-Head-Wood-Screws/264948545921?hash=item3db029f981:g:XawAAOSw8DpcL3OH
  13. Hallelujah, congrats getting the noise sorted, a big step forward ?.
  14. At the risk of repeating myself, your system was not designed properly, any insulation or not should have been taken into consideration and your system designed to be “fit fir purpose” which yours is not. ?
  15. Nah, just been bodging/inventing/diying for many years (I am told its because I am a tight wad ?). Rather than foam I would cut two circular wood plugs that fit in the pipe either end, use above screws to secure to pipe and 6mm threaded bar bolted to wooden ends (can supply a CAD drawing on request) (crayon assisted drawing ?). any way, must get on, currently building a bee hive from a big log (cus I am too tight to buy one!).
  16. 32mm weld waste pipe and round head self tappers 8 off (4 each end at 90’) to grip the roller ?
  17. A paint roller holds loads of paint so I wrap in clingfilm if going to use the same colour in the next few days.
  18. Not sure you can object if you don’t live there or own it?, one picture on the planning website shows a wall and fence best part of 2 meters but can’t see if it extends all the way down the new extension.
  19. Good point.
  20. No, a family member was looking at solving penetrating damp near a parapet wall and I came across them then. I have not used any sort but thought them a good solution.
  21. You never know what people are like, perhaps a friendly call to the planners (if they are taking calls) to get their take on it.
  22. You can get aluminium or GRP coping covers but they are expensive .......https://guttercentre.co.uk/aluminium-coping/3838-691764-skyline-aluminium-coping-3-metre-length.html?
  23. Ha, looks good, I usually use a hosepipe with sprayer end and point it at the roller off centre, does the same but you also get covered in water/paint ?, be easy to make that out of an old roller holder.
  24. Frankly I would be surprised if it passed planning with those windows as it inhibits you from doing the same.
