  1. Please sir, I do!!, they are 5 amp lighting plugs and sockets for standard lamps etc, socket wired into lighting ring and controlled by wall switch.
  2. what’s that? (Only joking, showing your age ?)
  3. This is because their voltage is lower (half) so the current for the same wattage will be higher, so not a problem.
  4. Yes and when I contacted the council about getting rid of it (I told them I just had loads of furniture etc delivered ?) they told me I could not take it to the recycling centre but could not tell me how to get rid of it.! (Bloke at the site was more accommodating and did it a bit at a time.
  5. I used standard blocks and 200mm cavity full fill with rockwall batts. I also used stainless ties as difference In U value nit justified by the cost of basalt. I also had first coat plaster done in sand and cement (much cheaper) and final coat in plaster (very solid sounding walls and can hang anything). Make sure you parge coat between floors (between floor joists where plaster does not go.) simple to use silicone where cables go into back boxes to make airtight.
  6. Yup, not difficult, not expensive, just need to pay attention to details like joists, electrical penetrations etc etc.
  7. I reduced part of my sisters kitchen that I fitted, no machines in that obviously, but she is on the sort side so I cut the feet in half and the kickboard. She tells me many of her (short) friends have commented that it was good. My grans kitchen had a lower surface, slate, to roll pastry on.
  8. It also makes me wonder how the hell they got planning permission in such lovely open countryside with no previous building on site ?‍♂️ When so many of us here struggled to fight planning for far more moderate houses?
  9. They have done this with cars,
  10. Oh that is so true, virtually all tv progs involving architects get the budget wrong.
  11. With the knowledge we have regarding the damage plastics is doing I cannot believe we still have plastic bags! Was it not Ireland that banned them and re introduced paper bags? What a sensible move. Yes supermarkets are charging more fir plastic bags and call them bags fir life but I still see loads of them thrown away. This move away from plastic needs to move up a notch, and similar with all things polluting.
  12. Frankly (IMO) it looked horrible (but i am not a fan of modern art). “More money than sense” rang true with me. Glad they like it tho!
  13. This efficiency drop with temperature is not as bad as some make out, it’s more about relative humidity and low temperatures that tends to drop the COP. Someone will be along in a moment with actual figures but I did ask this question some time ago ( @SteamyTea ??). yes, enclosing will not work because of the huge amount of air required.
  14. I seriously take my hat off to you mate, a great job under very difficult circumstances, I hope all is well with your tests and future health. You must be very proud ?
  15. Yes and the whole point of a kick board being recessed is you can stand closer to the worktop, saves your back.
  16. I use one of these (well similar anyway) they leave a Proper edge (you cut the tile from the back) and leaves a ragged edge like they come with. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114928777104?hash=item1ac249f790:g:6KMAAOSwgZJf-zuR Yes an angle grinder is good but leaves a “cut” edge. When I had my roof done they used hooks and not nails, I was not sure about this but at least you can replace a slate whereas when nailed it’s very difficult. Try watching this….. I would not use nails again ?
  17. I fitted my windows to check reveals with angled internal cavity closure. Stainless brackets fix window to outer leaf with expanding foam tape between to make airtight. Window sat on cill protruding into the cavity a little. I made timber pieces screwed to window sides and top to screw plasterboard reveal closure too. Expanding foam over brick/window joint. Plasterboard screwed to window/timber and plasterboard adhesive to inner blockwork.

    Ouch

They thought they did, next time they will do it better ?

    Ouch

Ooh er, BIG mistake whoever packed it, glass is very heavy so they should have known better. @craig was this fir you?
  20. If you have your foundations and guttering/facia on your land then you will end up with a small gap anyway (which is what I would do). Best to just talk to your neighbours and discuss.
  21. I used insulation to stop a thermal bridge from the cavity infill of concrete, building inspector accepted it. We lowered the DPC in line with the inner floor level and added an extra DPC in the outer brickwork to cope with rain bounce (DPC 6” above outer ground level).
  22. But what have they planning fir? Is it all underground? (If so what’s views ?‍♂️) surely the agents should post a drawing of the finished design!.

    Gate Pillars

I did wonder that???, but then again trying to mix a lump of limestone would be difficult?‍♂️(Limestone is porous).
  24. Personally I don’t like building notice, I have always gone full plans, I like to know exactly what’s required before I start.
  25. Well if it’s not specified and it’s the “vernacular” where you live I would go fir it, a little risk ?‍♂️To be absolutely sure you would need the planners to sign off on it. I am surprised the planners have not asked/specified what is being used. Don’t forget building regs as well ?
